Byrd was in legal dispute with King. So the Golota rematch got axed.

McCline vs Byrd was practically an independent promotion I recall on a King card, McCline being IBF fighter willing to fight for a pay cut.

Byrds legal battle with King got him black listed which is why he started fighting less, turning in bad performances, and ultimately Wlad having to pay the bills for their title match as I recall.

    Great video, as usual, Rummy...!!!

Bowe vs Golota 2, I was so thankful they didn't put it on a Thursday night card like they did Fight #1...!!!

One thing I remember about that card Bowe vs Golota 2) was hearing about the Brian Scott upset over Courage Tshabalala...my old fighter Keith McKnight was slated to face the winner, and the promoter for that fight, at that time (Cedric Kushner) already had the Tshabalala vs McKnight posters printed...!!!

Incredible work Rummy, really enjoyed it as a big time heavyweight fan. Especially the back story of Tyson-Douglas, quite a sight. :good

I remember something about Byrd and King having issues, but I'm nearly certain that the Ruiz-Golota/Byrd-McCline card was a DKP? No?

    Thanks moparfan!

    Like Dewey winning the Presidency!

I used to watch a lot of fights in Manhattan from like, 2006-2009, and I saw a lot of Cedric's cards in small venues when his cards frequently featured David Tua on the main event, with Mean Joe Greene and Peter Quillin on the undercards.

I don't remember that, but a Fistful of Dollars tourney sounds awesome!

The things I remember most from those cards, were Tua having a pretty exciting competitive bout against Robert Hawkins, and the fact I always thought Mean Joe was the real deal, while I also always thought that Quillin was pretty overhyped back then (but I wound up being round on both counts - but damn! Mean Joe Greene used to look really good back then, and Quillin, while more powerful, never did look particularly great to me at that time).

Great effort....great list...great commentary. Much appreciated.

    Couple personal comments:

    * did anyone in the HW division ever have a more annoying style than Byrd?
    * Holyfield gave more head than a p0rn star.
    * You remember Tyson and the mouthpiece...I remember the water balloon.
    * Andrew Golota.....wtf were you thinking?

I saw this card live. I went down with the guys ftom jimmy's corner, as jimmy was managing mccline at the time.

I was ringside and saw Holyfield look like **** against donald (we knew he'd lose; this was just after toney took him apart). Then Rahman fought Meehan, and I told all the PR New York guys around me what what happen and gained a lot of cred. Rahman had come in at 235 or something - his lowest weight for years - and I said he would go thru Meehan like a knife thru butter.

Mccline came up against Byrd and they prayed together before the fight and hugged. Byrd won most of the rounds but mccline had a knockdown. Byrd won clear.

Golota and Ruiz came on. Fight stunk. Everyone in MSG started fighting, poles against PR. I left and went back to jimmys corner.

Jimmys wife is a crazy polish woman who was tending bar. She had a lot to say about the way Byrd and mccline "showed respect" by praying and hugging before the fight. The two of them were friends, but she said, with some justification "if you want to fight, then fight, not hug each other like $&*^#@"

It was a good night, like many.

I confess, that although I planned to do so, I didn't actually rewatch every fight on the list in its entirety. However, I watched at least a small portion of each as well as small portions of about a dozen other fights I deemed "contenders" for the list.

Didn't Lederman have Tua winning, too?
