Tremendous post guys, love the insight. In no particular order: 1. Mike Tyson 2. Evander Holyfield 3. Lennox Lewis 4. Vitali 5. Vlad 6. George Foreman 7. Tyson Fury 8. Anthony Joshua (though I'm not a fan) 9. Deontay Wilder (gotta respect the power, he's improved, has only 1 loss); and 10. Chris Byrd NOTE: NO fighter other than the Klits from 2000 to the recent run of Heavyweight deserves a mention. That was a DREADFUL era, though I respect the Klits and feel they would have been good in any era. We are actually in a good heavyweight era as we speak, we'll be talking about this era in 20 years, hence the respect for Joshua, Fury, AND Wilder.
1. Lewis 2. Vitali 3. Wlad 4. Tyson 5. Fury 6. Holyfield 7. Bowe 8. Foreman 9. Joshua 10. Wilder * as of now. Fury Wilder and Joshua are still active and their places could move.
Yes, Wilder can enter top 10 if he annihilates Fury in rematch and beat a couple of top 10 fighters after that.
If you want to credit Wilder with a title defence over Fury(which I do myself, even though I scored it for Fury), you also have to credit Byrd with wins over Holyfield and Vitali.
That's why it helps to actually have context, and not just watch videos on Youtube. Byrd won his title from Vitali when Vitali tore his rotator cuff. He won his title from Evander when he tore his rotator cuff. Vitali quit. Evander didn't and kept trying to fight thru the pain. Even a 40-year-old Evander wasn't a quitter. He was out for a year after that. https://www.espn.com/boxing/news/2002/1218/1479329.html
No, I don't. Tyson Fury didn't suffer an injury against Wilder that required surgery and a year to recover from. If you're going to give credit to Byrd for drawing with Golota, I can give Wilder credit for drawing with Fury. Fury is a helluva lot better than Golota was. And Byrd didn't drop Golota twice along the way, either.
Ok, a link, yes, so more information. More info is always good. I didn't see that fight live back in 2002. I think Chris likely beats him anyway at that stage, but Holyfield probably was hampered on the night, I'd say, and likely not 100%. It wasn't prime Holy. Byrd was a tricky southpaw and tough for almost anyone.
Respect, but in that case, I would replace Chris Byrd and insert Riddick Bowe. As a Washington DC native, I loved Riddick, his run was kinda short in retrospect. I'll stand by Big George. He did ALOT, even in his comeback, and I'd rate him above Chris Byrd.
Do you think Foreman after `86 placed in a ring with a prime Byrd would have been able to win though?
