He does not belong in the list. Look at how Castillo and Maidana did. May was not effective enough offensive wise. Unlike James Toney who was great at both defense and offense on the insight
Some great lists in this thread already. Archie Moore is worth mentioning. He could work inside from any position, and was extremely close to beating Charles in their 2nd encounter, in what was described as an inside fight through and through. It was close enough to warrant another fight, and since the bout took palce in Charles's hometown, Moore might have just been right when claiming he deserved the decision. Walcott was a crafty inside fighter as well.
I love Laciar. An awesome little fighter and kinda has that weird athleticism and technique you see in his predecessor Perez, the type that makes him look like a little buzzsaw when he starts unloading. I really wanna see Lacair vs Gonzalez but iirc it wasn't available on YouTube and I haven't really looked for it in years at this point. I don't think he looks quite good enough to sneak in the ten, though. I'd make the same judgement of Perez too, albeit with more hesitation. Re: the Asians. Shirai was a neat little scrapper, too. Wasn't he the one to beat Perez first? Or was that Yaoita? Man, for whatever reason, I've never been able to remember much of Perez's opposition. As for Park, I think you're bang on the money about him getting his best work in done on his way in rather than actually there, ear to ear, so to speak. It feels a little cliche to compare every Korean fighter to Chang, but I always did think Park was a little bit of a prototypical Hawk. Especially in the fight with Espadas, the way he fought on outside and bounced in with his back-hands. But I think his weaknesses were laid bare in the Oguma trilogy. He was pretty clearly beaten up close, and while he gave a valiant effort, I was clear to me, he was not only physically weaker than Oguma, but technically as well. Possibly mentally weaker by the looks of it.
He’s been mentioned, but Bowe is the best big-man infighter I think I’ve ever seen. Chewed people up inside.
