Top 10 underrated

a lot of the names mentioned are not underrated, just more forgotten or not as well known as they should be...

i.e Steele & Lloyd Marshall, both rate very high, but they aren't always spoke of in the usual regurgitated more popularly known names in conversations.

the Irish fighter Jimmy Warnock who was a top contender and he beat Lynch twice is the kind of fighter that interests me...

fighters like that, I believe are far more interesting than done to death Champions or supposed champions, like a TF for a recent years example.

another just came to mind Jeremy Williams, great boxer probably could have been a bit more.

but in past times & bygone Prizefighting days like the first few, far more intriguing stories.

 

btw has/is anybody Writing a Book on Lloyd Marshall, whom is easily among the greatest fighters of alltime.

In beginning Fighter's

Mick Dooley (had a whole career not documented)
Frank Slavin (one of first big stars along w/jackson)
Martin "buffalo"costello (great p4p) very short prime but one of the best unknown fighters.
Mike Donovan Jr (outstanding fighter) taught by a master
Kid Carter (great power poorly managed)
Twin Sullivan (one of the best inside fighters)
Jack Root/ Kid Mccoy (both hit the scene with a big splash)
Harry Laing (lost in history) basically never lost a match..

and probably the most underrated of them all would be
Larry Temple (you will gain next to nothing looking at his record of draws)
But very few impressed the way he did. He was extra extra special.

I also really appreciate any fighter who resurrected their career out of complete shambles.
Like Big Sandy Ferguson or Mysterious Billy Smith both are some of the great resurrection stories in boxing.

 

Good choice, one that I wish I had picked. Williams was a good heavyweight, but what definitely let him down was his chin, which wasn't helped by his bad defensive habits. I believe if he had fought in the era when they raised the cruiserweight limit to 200 pounds, he 100% would've been a champion too. He was too powerful and explosive not to be.

I remember he was scheduled to fight Hasim Rahman at one point, but Rahman had to cancel and he fought Maurice Harris instead. He was clearly out of his depth because he had been training for Rahman's style, but instead got outboxed and lost, which in my opinion put the final nail in the coffin for his chances of becoming someone in the heavyweight picture.

His best win is over Doc Nicholson, who was Emanuel Steward's protege and highly regarded by the trainer, and he knocked him out in two rounds.
