You still haven’t answered my question...who has golovkin ever beat that proves he’s a top 5 middleweight of all time?

Golovkin resume is very unimpressive. No big names. He wouldn’t find Andre Ward for good reason

Who has GGG ever beaten whose anywhere near a great fighter? I’m looking at his best wins right now...his resume is trash. Completely padded with nobodies

He never fought Ward, never fought Kovalev.

GGG beat Canyellow fair and obviously, but his resume is too weak for a top 15 list.

No to Zale as well. But all the other names mentioned are in th top 20 at least.

Impressive list for sure, and he didn’t draw the color line either.

I personally consider Hagler number 1 or 2 all time..so Steele above him is a bit shocking to me

    For Haglers resume you had

    Thomas Hearns
    Vito Antuofermo
    Alan Minter
    Fulgencio Obelmejias 2x
    Zmustafo
    Mustafa Hamsho
    Juan Rolden
    John Mugabi
    Tony Sibson
    Roberto Duran
    Bennie Briscoe
    Willie Monroe 2x
    Eugene Hart
    Bobby Watts

I think that’s a great list. You have a few great fighters, several number 1 contenders, plenty of huge punchers, and seem, tough Philadelphia middles of the 70s.

Golovkin didnt beat Canelo (I had it a draw), certainly didnt do it convincingly, and lets keep in mind that at 33 it was his first marquee fight and it came against a guy moving up in weight dont make me puke rating him in the top ten of the deepest division in history. God ****ing damn the guy is the poster child for modern overrated fluff. How many "defenses" does he claim?? How many of those opponents will be remembered in 10 years?

Do you consider Hagler modern? Hopkins? I rate both over Monzon H2H, at MW, and P4P. Sorry to burst your bubble. BUT can you deny any of my criticisms of him? No. You cant. He has a million wins at home against nobodies at a time when Argentina had the nost corrupt officiating youll see this side of 1990s Germany. His best wins came against smaller, faded fighters. He ducked his top contender for 3 years and only agreed to fight him AFTER a near career ending car accident that mangled said challengers power hand. None of that is disputeable. So why should I rate him above a guy like Greb who beat the **** out of men in three divisions while a MW? Or Robinson, who was dominant in two divisions while weighing under 160, I could go on but I think you get the point. The bottom line is that Monzons rep is so overblown and distorted today its beyond belief.

Monzon above Greb does not particularly appeal to me, and you shouldn't see Monzon above Greb IMO unless you are putting massive emphasis on championship reigns.

But where do you think Monzon should be rated?

    If we take this list:

    10 - Jake LaMotta
    09 - Holman Williams
    08 - Tommy Ryan
    07 - Charley Burle
    06 - Bernard Hopkins
    05 - Mike Gibbons
    04 - Stanley Ketchel
    03 - Sugar Ray
    02 - Marvin Hagler
    01 - Harry Greb

Where would you plop him? Or outside it?

He certainly is being overrated by people whom place him in anything approaching a top ten all time list. His credentials in the ring certainly don't speak to that extreme level of ability. You can fit him in somewhere in the top 30 if you're generous I suppose.

Newsflash: Ward is Supermiddleweight. Kovalev is LHW. Nevertheless when he tried to make the Ward fight, Ward said "no". It's history.

Golovkin beat a roided to the eyeballs Canelo 8-4, comfortably.

He would have smashed Martinez, Sturm, Eubank and Chavez Jr as well had they managed to have their balls drop and find a pen to sign on the dotted line.

What beats me is how people can rate Hopkins that high and yet have disdain for Golovkin. Hopkins lost to Jones and drew with friggin' Mercado ffs. He looked less than spectacular in several fights. He also had his share of bums like Melvin Wynn and Eric Rhinehart. Since when has Golovkin ever looked like he was struggling against an opponent? He's been sensational. Now, I can understand MW is insanely stacked and that you might not have Golovkin in a top 10 list. OK, sure. But I don't understand how you can have Hopkins as high as 5-6 and not find place for GGG. Beats me.

Ah out come the GGG apologists.

    Always an excuse

GGG will retire without ever having defeated anyone even close to great

I'm not going begrudge ranking Hagler above Steele. I love Hagler. But the argument can be made either way.

Monzon out of the top 5 is ludicrous. The guy was undefeated for 13 years. A fluke, I suppose. I guess the 10 years in which he arose to the elite level and then dominated it constituted a weak decade, as if those exist in such duration. I am trying to remember who he ducked in that time. Perhaps someone can help.

Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t monzon defeat every man he ever faced?

    His top wins

    Nino Benvenuti 2x
    Emile Griffith 2x
    Rodrigo Valdez 2x
    Bennie Briscoe
    Jose Napoles
    Tony Licata
    Tony Mundine

    Seems pretty good to me
