He's the most overrated CW in the history of the division. People just stick him on lists like this with no thought whatsoever to his actual body of work. His resume is ridiculously thin compared to genuine campaigners at that weightclass.
It's not a glamour division and it shows. Few seem to know that much about it. Holyfield at #1, Usyk at #2... De Leon was pretty damn good and I'd favor the Qawi that fought tooth and nail with Evander the first time to beat up a lot of the names already listed.
It's a damned shame. CW has consistently been one of the best divisions of recent years, with a raft of FOTY candidates, yet it continues to get ignored and/or crapped on by the majority of fans. I really don't understand why more hardcores don't make the effort to get into it more. Pretty much all the key fights are available on youtube, same as every other division.
It's not a major blot on his record for me. Far more damning is his paper thin resume at the top of the division. Mormeck and Macarinelli. That's it. Fragomeni if you want to feel generous.
I like Green as a fighter, but no way does he ever belong on even a top ten best CWs of all time, let alone top five. Unless I'm completely missing some running joke here.
I do: and I see someone beating fighters who weren’t all that good. Gassiev is a greater cruiserweight than Haye, more skilled and a harder puncher too.
Mormeck was still decent at the time Haye fought him, I'll give him that. But Enzo? We quickly found out how good he was. So Haye's entire resume at CW consists of one good win. How good depends on how highly you rate Mormeck, and by extension how highly you rate Bell (who Adamek stopped).
