Yes Seamus,Dempsey had DANCERS legs also, hence his 190 pounds... BUT, the Toughest man I EVER knew was our local peanut vendor. He whistled while his nuts roasted...Now that's tough !atsch
I see what your saying. Linares is so smooth it is hard not to be impressed, however when you see him in the ring against solid opposition, it is quite clear that he really isn't as good as he appeared to be.
I don't know if anyone's ever physical made for boxing. But from a primarily physical standpoint I'd say Tyson. An absolute marvel. For an instinctual and natural standpoint I'd pick Duran. Langford works as a pick too.
For modern fighters, Floyd mayweather was made for boxing. Those freakishly long arms for his height give him some nice advantages in winning rounds in a modern boxing match. The cockiness always helps as well as that work ethic. Manny pacquiao on the other hand was made for brawling. A combination of fast and heavy hands and elite durability give him the edge over most in a firefight. I think fighters like Linares are inherently too fragile for boxing as durability is surely neccesary for a long and successful career.
The physicality isn't there as well unfortunately for Linares. It's a difficult thing to describe but some fighters just have that physical toughness about them and the ability to employ a game plan or fight back under heavy fire. JMM for example simply belongs in a ring. Even when he was being thoroughly outmatched by mayweather he was never really close to breaking down mentally or physically.
some really good answers so far but the first guy i thought of was tommy hearns. the height, reach, shoulder's, legs built for movement EVERYTHING. he was probably the most physically gifted welter ever
