The greatest fighter of all time is someone who I imagine to be unbeatable over a period of time, someone who reduced his closest challenge to an easy victory.....one name springs to mind. ROY JONES
No way Walcott is top 10, p4p maybe the greatest puncher ever but he is not even a top 4 welter all time IMO. Robinson, Leonard, Napoles and Armstrong have him beat there and that was his best weight. A case can be made for top 30 though. This content is protected Good call on Britton. I thought Kid Lewis was a shade better though. Put him between 40 and 50. Mayweather skill set, only a shade better than B-Hop. Ring generalship and intelligence? No way. Hopkins has no major flaw in his prime except he did not have the best jab in the world but with his timing, and counterpunching he made up for that. His middleweight reign was as good as Floyd's at 130 and 135 combined even though the losses at 40 to JT hurt a tad but not too bad. Still a top 4 middleweight ever. His win over Tarver was>than Floyd's joke reign at 140 as well, and the Winky win was just about as good as the DLH win. Floyd has the size disadvantage as did Wink, but Wink has more left in the tank than DLH and was a top 3 p4p fighter at the time. 147 is what might seperate them. I will switch Floyd and B-Hop around right now because the Judah win was pretty good and the Hatton win was good too. If Hopkins beats Calzaghe though that changes. I would put that win on par if not better than Floyd's whole body of work there. Calzaghe can be a monster if he has a good styles advantage over fighters. Kid Chocolate is top 60 without a doubt, maybe where I have him is a shade too high but not bad. Walker was fabolous and 19 is not a bad spot. Him, like Canzeroni I keep moving up. You have got to remember these are some quality fighters ahead of him. Gene Tunney definately has an arguement over him. With his record and the quality of fighters he beat. Hell Tunney can make a case for being right there with Charles. Ray Leonard with his wins over ATG and how good he was on film, heart, speed, chin, ring generalship. Monzon was a demon over the last decade of his carrer and combine that with the fact his training was lackluster. Joe Louis, possibly the best offensive fighter ever and top 2 heavyweight. Gans, the first great Lightweight top 5 all time in the deepest division ever, and no lightweight goes 15 rounds with Langford, but he did. I don't even think Duran could have went the distance with Langford. Jofre was the best bantamweight ever, sure he lost to a smaller Fighting Harada but Harada is just below a first tier ATG and Jofre was old. Wilde might deserve a spot below Walker, he is a bit overrated but he was still explosive. I used to have him at 7 which was far too kind but an arguement could be made he is as low as around 20-25.
Muhammad Ali, I'd say. Just because he was such a polarizing figure that people would either diminish his accomplishments, or, perhaps overrate him according to how they view them.
Good list, just wondering where you would rank Benitez and Gomez both of whom I would put in the top 55. Also feel Ketchel is too high I know he past away young but can't see why he is above Griffth and Chavez. Also Canzoneri should be above Jones the guys resume is amazing first fighter to win titles in three weight classes as well. I would also have Ike Williams higher but otherwise a good list.
His case is made in a P4P sense, not in a singular weight class, as he most of the time fought bigger men while being just a WW himself. And for McGrain, I just now realized Kid Gavilan wasn't on the list, that HAS to be changed.
Thanks for posting your list. I always have respect for people who take the time to make them and share them with the rest of us. Care to explain this?
Sure! Is that to high or to low for you? If it's to low, make a case for why he should be above Duran or Fitzsimmons.
