True but the narrative would still work the same. A cuts loss to Wallin would have easily been explained away as a fluke - he was unlucky - its boxing it happens - then the hype machine would roll around again.

The figures banded around for the Wallin fight will see Fury goes home happy with his paycheck. Arum is probably less happy with the volume of tickets shifted (but then why choose an unheralded Swede )but he will have his eyes on the money generated by a Wilder fight it's all part of the same process. Draw things out as long as possible before a super fight that's the default plan A... If that fails immediate rematch -only then do the promoters worry about loosing the cash cow.

I think the problem here is that you're talking about the Fury hype machine, and I'd say 'what hype machine?'

If you believe this sort of thing you have Fury going viral after the Wilder fight, he's on Joe Rogan, he's making mega millions, he's become a new superstar in the States yadda yadda yadda. And the end result of this hype is a Tom Schwarz fight in a largely empty venue, but hey, he did an Apollo Creed impression so he's still getting hyped. Next it's Wallin, this time it's a Mexican theme, but again, this fight appears to have sold absolutely dreadfully.

It's weird. You have people going on like Fury's this major household name, yet by all accounts they sold about two thousand tickets. The guy just doesn't seem to have ever been popular.

If he steps in with Wilder again lets see how many PPV buys - seats sold etc and if its any more than the first fight.
The last two fight have been about stringing the process along... According to some articles Fury made around $12 millon dollars for the Schwarz fight. Which is mental. As others have said its the age old marinade the fight for an age make money. It backfired with AJ but its worked out for Fury. It's all about $$$
