Dempsey is no way near Ali or Louis. He's not a Top 10 Heavyweight. If we're talking oldtimers then Johnson and Jeffries were better.

tyson should be rated above holmes. his 1980s title reign is far more impressive, dominant, consistent, than holmes title reign.

NO TO LARRY HOLMES...... if he had fought and beat Spoon Rematch, pinklon thomas and mandatory # 1 greg page, then he would be.......but he didn't.

Did someone say Lennox Lewis ?? Get outta here.

Lewis isn't even on the radar of true "greatness" to be compared with Joe Louis. He's not even getting a sniff at that category, IMO.

Verry few heavyweights have all time resumes relative to all fighters from flyweight to light heavy.

Louis and Ali are the only two who really stand out even among the best lightweights, middles etc etc.

In a pound for pound sense then Dempsey and Marciano need mentioning, perhaps a few others.

Lewis is legit Top 6 of all time IMO (I've him at #4). I realize that Louis and Ali are the undisputed best two heavyweights overall, but seriously Lewis is right amongst the immediate clutch behind them.

What are your serious opinions on Lewis then? Does he not impress you on film? Do you feel too many people overrate him? What would you say are his assets, best wins? Do the McCall and Rahman losses taint beyond control his standing in your eyes? Does decisive redemption for thse defeats not deserve any credit? Who do you rate as the best Heavyweight of the last 20 years? etc.

I guess you like ranking heavyweight champs high who dont fight # 1 contenders or give rematches in controversial fights

In a pound for pound sense, I have to agree. There are several heavyweights who I think were great fighters when matched with their own peers, but if we look at a list of every great fighter in every division over the last 100 years, then Louis and Ali are the only ones who belong there with Robinson, Pep, Armstong, B. Leonard, R. Leonard, etc, etc.

    ;)

We've been here before though haven't we*? Golota, Tyson, Ruddock, Tua and other big hitting 200 plus pound heavyweights all landed meaningful shots on Lewis and he didn't go down. He was stopped prematurely against McCall, definitely should have been allowed a chance to fight on (especially as a Champ fighting in his own country) and no excuses for the Rahman defeat, he got careless and hit flush by a monster overhand right which could well have sent quite a few other fighters great or not down for the count. His chin wasn't the best of all-time but it was far from the worst, pretty damn solid all told.

    *Zakman alert.

I disagree with anyone who says Lennox Lewis was a " chinny " fighter. Folks seem to focus on all but two KO losses, but fail to look at his ability to take big shots against nearly half a dozen big punchers, and still coming away with wins. I won't count the Ruddock, Golata, or Morrison fights given that none of those guys were able to really touch him, but Mason, Bruno, V. Klitschko, Tua, Mercer and Briggs, were certainly big Hitters who landed flush shots and Lewis took them quite well. He also did when he was past his best against a few of those names.

I think Lewis had a solid chin. Not on the same level as Ali for example but still very solid.

Well, he has a more impressive style and his absolute peak is on film. How about Johnson spanking Langford or McVey? How about comparing THAT to Dempsey? We can't. I personally consider both better fighters than Dempsey based upon what I know.
