    NOTE:

Dokes was a buffed 216 for fight # 1 in '82, and Dokes was a hefty 223 for fight # 2 in 1983..... Dokes had become complacent after winning or robbing Weaver of the WBA title in 1982............ Ref 'Joey Curtis' was a crook / derelict....

On the other hand, Weaver was lean 209 in fight # 1 and a ripped to the max 218 pounds for fight # 2 in 1983.....

Point is, BOTH dudes' put on weight for the rematch, but only Weaver did it the right way......

Dokes fancied himself a gourmet cook, so it's easy to see why he put on weight. I still think he was sniffing.

Hell, YES! Dokes took a Champagne bath with hookers and Coke on a silver plate after he and Joey Curtis STOLE the WBA title from Mike Weaver in '82...... Dokes was ILL prepared for Weaver in 1983........ Weaver was on fire in 1983........

The WBA are based in Panama.
And I doubt an organization as dodgy as a syndicate of Panamian-based boxing racketeers would be high on the list of anti-apartheid campaigns. I think Prez. Ronald Reagan was doing business with South Africa at that time. The sporting boycotts were a bit of a smokescreen.

The WBA seemed to have a love affair with South Africa at that time, not just Coetzee. I mean, Gerrie was at least a deserving contender. There were South African boxers in the WBA ratings who frankly didn't deserve to be considered contenders. Harold Volbrecht springs to mind (two shots at the welterweight title), and lesser fighters I cannot remember.

I dont know the full details about the dirty pact between the WBA and the South African regime, but the name BOB ARUM fits in there somewhere too.
