No. He went down. When a fighter pitches face first into the ropes and he's being held up by them, he's judged to be down. (His knee touched too, I think, but that's not relevant. He's down.) A "standing 8 count" is something they have in amateur fights and non-title fights in some states. Where a referee can halt the action after a hard punch and count on a fighter who hasn't been down. That's what a standing 8 count is. They are almost always barred from title fights.
So the natural monster Tyson couldn't beat a chicken legged roided up LHW, no wonder the Whizzer made an appearance.....
Using this logic, please explain how Ali was not administered multiple 8 counts when he was getting pummeled by George Foreman while leaning back heavily against the ropes. George was landing big shots, and "but for" the ropes Ali would have been knocked down. Mills Lane was just covering his own ass. He knew he made a mistake and tried to excuse it with bogus legal analysis.
Tyson-Cooper was the SuperFight everyone was anticipating in 1992. Cooper was the uncrowned champ. Both Tyson and Cooper got screwed out of their titles.
Mills Lane stepped in to stop Cooper from finishing off Holyfield. Holy stumbled into the ropes but didn't go down. Oh now his knee hits the ground? I thought it was his glove? Now it's his knee? Cooper got screwed. Holyfield got saved. And Mills Lane helped him out by administering a standing 8 count.
I wouldn't quite go that far. I think Tyson would have blitzed Smokin' Bert in short order. But, the call by Mills Lane likely saved millions of dollars for Holyfield's camp.
You're right. Most boxing fans wanted a Tyson-Holyfield bout but Cooper was screwed out of making his millions against Tyson.
The point is, Ali was hit, and "but for" the ropes he would be down. I agree a knockdown wasn't appropriate in Ali-Foreman. Just like it wasn't appropriate in Holyfield-Cooper.
Maybe if Tyson hadn't faked that rib injury Cooper might have got that fight with Tyson after Holyfield had finished with him.
No he would not, Ali was using the ropes as a tactical ploy. Holyfield used them to stop himself from falling to the floor after getting stunned.
You are too stupid and agenda driven to debate with, Wass. Not wasting any more time arguing with you.
No I'm too good for a ****** like yourself, big difference. You obviously know fcuk all about boxing.
Lane declared it a knockdown, you give a minimum 8 count after a knockdown. The ropes held Holyfield up from an inevitable knockdown, how hard is that to understand simpletons.
I think it is fairly easy to see that it was a KD and Mills took the appropriate action....but by all means continue to debate this for another 2 pages lol
