He did get his ass kicked by Holyfield, but that's just the styles... Like I said, he would do well head to head, not win consistently against ATG's, but he would do well potentially. And he had a good chance against any heavy ATG head to head.

Okay but thats a completely different argument isn't it? I never suggested for a second Tyson wouldn't have been competitive against the all time greats.

because I have a brain, fingers, and keyboard. of course ANY statement in this forum will be subjective, so don't beef me because of my personal opinion. We could argue here all day about who would win what but when it comes down to it it is all heresay.

So don't have a conniption fit simply read and go home. I gaurantee many boxers, and boxing experts would agree with my opinion, and thats all it is - an opinion.

Tyson was the most enertaining fighter of his generation, thats something most people could agree on. Is Tyson overrated, maybe, but that still doesnt take away from what he accomplished over his 20 years as a fighter. I think he embodied almost anything you could want in a champion in his prime, a devastating power in both hands, blazing speed, great head movement, good chin, and the rage of an animal in the ring. Love him or hate him, he brought the average fan back to heavyweight boxing again.

Thats fine it just seems, at times, the Tyson zealots are utterly convinced he could have beaten anyone & they are not prepared to listen to anyone else. I can see, from your last post, you are not one of these people so I apologise.

You never answered my first question by the way.;)

Was Holyfield even a heavyweight in the 80's? I thought he moved up in weight around 1991, which makes your entire post redundant.

The debate was about whether he was overated not if he enriched peoples lives for a brief time in the late eighties.

Tyson is one of the most under rated champions. Most people look too hard at his post prison career.

I wouldn't argue with any of that but the question of the thread was 'is he the most over-rated heavy of all time?'

My answer is a resounding 'NO', when you compare him to what the average Klit fan is spewing right now. Sure Tyson wasn't as good as Lewis, Ali, Foreman etc, but he'd have eaten the division up if he were 22 years old at this moment.

I agree he is not the most overated heavy of all time. Not by a long shot.

Seeing as you mentioned Klitschko fans, sorry to go off on a tangent, but what is wrong with them? Most of them appear to border on the fanatical & are completely devoid of any rationalism when it comes to discussing them.

He's overrated by your average fans, which only heard stories about him or just seen his knockout tapes and nothing else.

I think there could be an element of truth to that but I think there are plenty of knowledgable fans who still over rate him.

Tyson had strong skills but a weak heart. Having said that, Tyson set the standard by which all other short sluggers should be judged.

I assume you mean weak in the non literal sense? I disagree there, against Douglas he was trying to get up but couldn't. In the first Holyfield fight he was rescued by the ref & against Lewis he took a terrible beating without quitting.
