Well that is true, but you must remember most of the ESB posters grew up on Mike Tyson, which may have something to do with it.
By the time he fought Buster Douglas, he was no longer fighting like Mike Tyson. His training didn't improve either.
Thats fine but people need to separate the nostalgic feelings Tyson envokes within them from the bare facts about his career. Anyway I'm off to bed guys, it's 3am here, no doubt we'll continue this discussion tomorrow. Happy New Year!
Let's not act like he was prime against Holyfield either, not even close to the Tyson that was dominating in the late 80's.
Holyfield fought as a Heavyweight from 87-88 on if you don't believe so look up his classic duel with Michael Dokes in 1989, also Holy won the Undisputed title by KO Douglas in 1990, the same Douglas that Knocked Tyson cold 9 months earlier..:hi:

yea he wasnt "great" cause he didnt last long as king and he had a bad attitude, which seems to change peoples opinion of how good he was as a boxer. ok he was a lazy ******* who didnt train hard and just relied on his talents, yea hes a dick for biting evander, yea he deserved to get ktfo by douglas since he was just "fornicatin" japenese women instead of training. But tyson with kevin rooney 85-87, though short lived, wouldve easily beaten every heavyweight in history with an exception of 3 or 4 maybe. and watch in 30 years or so, there will be another guy just like tyson, or even better and stronger, but we will prob rate iron mike above him just cause hes from an older, traditional time period and we all swear these old fighters wouldve killed anyone.
He was overrated (mostly by casual fans who only knew Tyson, DLH, SRL, etc) but he did not lose to all fighters who tried to back him up. I have Tyson somewhere in the end of the top 10 ATG HW all time list.
Tyson rating is all over the map. Some say he was the greatest most unbeatable force ever, while others say he was too small to take on the big skilled guys and that he lacked heart. Both exagerrations IMO. I rate Tyson as a great talent, pretty much had the whole package but he squandered his talent. Mike was on his way to ATGness but once he severed ties with his original team, things went downhill fast. What it tells me more than anything is just how important it is for a fighter to surround himself with a great team, and dedicate himself to excellence. That being said it really astonishes me how the Wlifred Benitez's of the world accomplished so much with such a lack of dedication
Hey nothing wrong with that, it shows you have passion for the sport which is good. I do it with Lennox Lewis to a certain extent but I have to remind myself he suffered two embarassing KO losses that greatly affect his all time ranking.:good
