I think ive just answered my own question just found this Bruno doc on Youtube, purely to find out his opinions on the Tyson fights. Benn was saying that 2pac Shakur and Tysons entourage were making death threats to Bruno and Benn! 20:00 mins onwards [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z86OdXc-3Z0[/ame]
you shouldn't submit. look at buster douglas - you always have a good chance with the right mental attitude. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them. A desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have last-minute stamina, they have to be a little faster, they have to have the skill and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill. - Muhammad Ali
Bruno was another stiff that Tyson fought. Berbick, Spinks, Mathis Jr., Bonecrusher, Mitch Green, Peter M, etc.....
I think that a lot of it has to do with Bruno's mental decline outside the ring between the two fights.
atsch Did you ever see them training ? spinks was undefeated , Smith was a great puncher , Berbick was the wbc champ , green was a decent contender , Bruno could knock out a horse , yeah really sounds like he fought only bums !!!
Incredible events To see the monster in the flesh tearing towards the ring with all his crew rappin out the death chants is something thats always gonna be fixed in my minds eye for ever. My son was only 12 at the time & he can still recall it as clear as rain & thats his big dick claim to fame when he slaps down the locals "I WAS THERE" he proudly howls! It was only today that we spoke about it on the phone. I recall his words when he saw Tyson, he was that close he could have touched him, WOW...SOLID! I think that was the cool verballs at the time that he & his stone throwing shop lifting mates used back then. he had my motorised Camera & he just blasted it off in full auto like a AK47 straight into Rory Holloways eyes After Bruno went down screaching i grabbed me nipper & we were out of there rapido & i said to him nows the time to start using yer yank accent, whatever you do don't sound english, **** that! That fight was enough of an embarrasment & vegas ai'nt no place to be once yer boy's had an ass whippin. So we fled the scene with **** eating grins & plenty of texas yeeehaaaa's along with plenty of "**** those god damb limey mutherfuggers":smoke
To be honest, Bruno didn't do an awful lot of fighting in the 1989 fight either. Sure, he had some success and rocked a sloppy version of Tyson in round 1, but he was hanging on in a fearful state in that fight too ! Richard Steele docked him a point a minute or two into the fight, that's how bad he was holding. Going in to the 2nd fight, on paper Bruno should have done better than the first fight, he'd looked a better fighter in the 1990s than he'd been in the 1980s, was bigger and stronger than ever, and Tyson looked worse than ever in his previous fight with Buster Mathis Jr. Let's not forget that Bruno had been retired and out of the ring 2 1/2 years after the first Tyson fight due to detached retina surgery, and by 1996 apparently his eye had gone again. He never had the style to beat Tyson anyway. Ideally he should have taken a Lennox Lewis rematch in 1996 but to get the shot at McCall, W&rren had tied Bruno to Don King's Tyson plans, so that was that. I
