For a guy of his obvious talents, he's exercised a remarkably weak level of control over the division.

The time when Fury was *clearly* the best fighter in the world was mayfly-like. After that, he's been hopping in and out of a twilight existence as sort-of-maybe-the-lineal-champ.

It's like if Dempsey had had the option of holding and relinquishing alphabet belts on short term loan, one at a time.

I have always liked the guy but I would be glad if he were really gone. His part-time fighter status has not been good for the division overall.

I agree. It's doubly frustrating because he's only been able to hold the division hostage like this because he's genuinely very good.

Not surprised at all, the guy eats beef and sausages by the car load!

Tyson Fury never struggled to stay in shape between fights.
But he was always ready to fight (stamina).

It's what he does and yes it will shorten his career no doubt. But the way he always talks about retirement all the time even as far back as when he beat Wlad, I never really thought he'd have a long career. He'll probably suddenly decline drastically at some point and then lose to someone unexpected.

But Fury is who he is we shouldn't really expect anything different from him. His strength is his size, skills and ring IQ not how physically good his conditioning is. Boxing is more than just about being 100% physically, it's more skill and ring IQ than how much you can run or lift. People will go on about how much better fighters are now due to proper strength and conditioning but fighters like Fury, Toney etc show you can be sub par physically and still be great because they have the skills to overcome their lack of conditioning.

He will earn hundreds of millions of dollars, if he beats the winner of Usyk vs Joshua. So, I think he is definitely training very hard.

So winning one mandatory gives you a free pass to 1 year of inactivity?

I suppose it really depends on when a mandatory emerges though. I think the winner of Ruiz vs Ortiz will become WBC mandatory, and Fury will be forced to fight one of them. And he will be obliterate either.

Two things I want to mention here
#1 He IS slower now. Partially because the speed goes first as a fighter ages. Probably the gas tank is not here anymore to float like butterfly. Partially because he's changed his styles and now more KO centered
#2 The likes of Whyte can't motivate anyone to train their asses off. He did train hard for Klitschko, Wilder II. Let's see if Usyk undisputed fight motivates him enough

I don't buy the whole "he's built for KO". He was much quicker in Wilder ll than he was in Wilder 3, and that was his most one sided beat down ever.

The reality is he probably didn't train throughout covid, and all the boozing and junk eating cannibalised his muscle and he put on a lot of fat also.

He was only 4lbs heavier in the 3rd wilder fight than the 2nd one, but he looked much fatter. He takes his body too much for granted.

It's a real shame because I'd have liked to have seen a greater run of Fury at his best.

But I guess it's not enough just to have physical potential, you need to have the personality to go along with it in order to ever achieve your true potential.

Sad. If Fury is truly past his best, and his last two performances are the best he can do now, then I see Usyk beating him quite easily, and maybe even Joshua.

People think that you can tame the Gypsy heart. But if that were true, would you then be able to tame the Mexican's chin or the Armenian's muscled biceps? Would you be able to tame the sun? The sun that shines onto the planet of Earth? Huh? Would you then be able to do that? If you think so, you are really, really not smart. If that is what you would think.

“A proper fighting man” need not worry himself about nutrition , aesthetics or vanity.

Hell be ready when the time is right.
