Refs break clinches instantly , no leaning,no resting inside. Fury s (And other s) modern style depends heavily on smothering, leaning, then reset. This gets stripped away entirely . For me with this , Fury becomes more mobile also more hittable.
Totally agree. If Fury had to work and move more often, he would tire faster, and, likely get knocked down (and possibly out) more.
Fury couldn't do that vs Ngannou who was psychically stronger than him and Fury also couldn't make Ngannou fall for the feints. I know people say Ngannou only had success vs Fury because he was out of shape. But I do think some of Fury's flaws were a bit exposed in that fight aswell. Fury also couldn't clinch or lean on Uysk either who would always push him off. Another reason Fury tired out and couldn't fight at his own pace again attributes being exposed.
I think those bits are often overlooked in the narrative surrounding both fights. You can see the visible shock on fury’s face and demeanour when he could not lean on or clinch Usyk for prolonged periods. The sheer strength of the smaller man surprised him
It's so ridiculous people put Fury into the Wlad category. Fury clinches the least of all the big fighters. He's always boxed very cleanly even though he didn't have to. He was never some jab and grab style.
Fury actually knows how to fight inside against smaller men and will so, very few big men fight inside. Furys clinch game is just a natural part of knowing how to fight inside. He will reposition himself and to break if possible and does so when the ref breaks to get a better position once split. Wlad on the other hand his clinches are all about disengagement How about Ali and no clinch rules? Clinching is a part of boxing....
