After Evander sparked Douglas they were trying to set up Holyfield Tyson, then Tyson went to prison and the rest is history

This. Once Holyfield took out Douglas, demand for a rematch was essentially zero. I don't remember anybody even talking about Tyson/Douglas II once the fight fans wanted from the beginning, Tyson vs. Holyfield, would be for all the belts again.

I was so ****ing hyped when they announced the fight..... Then Tyson got in trouble... but that paved the way for the Bowe Fights.
However back then had they fought who knows I always believed Evander had the perfect style to whip Mike no matter when they fought.
Duva matched him with the perfect fighters to simulate that style coming up as he moved up from Qawi, to Dokes and even Cooper....
However knowing what Dokes and Cooper were able to do, had they fought Holyfield may have been stopped by Mike back then but then again Evander recovered in those fights and came back to stop both.
Not saying that he would have done the same cus Tyson power is entirely different but damn I really wish we had the fight back then both in their prime they would both be worse than Bowe is right now... could you imagine

No, Mike Tyson rebounded with wins over Henry Tillman, Alex Stewart, and Donovan Ruddock (twice) in the span of about one year.

Tyson has said that he was at his best during this time, and has repeatedly iterated over the years that his best performances were against Stewart and Tillman.

At this time a bout with Evander probably looked much safer than a rematch with Tyson.

If you take into account that Holyfield was also mandatory, it is logical Douglas preferred to defend his titles against him and then possibly negotiate Tyson rematch still as a champion.
