Just in absolute isolation, that was a great uppercut by 5’10”, 71” reached Tyson on a 6’4” opponent. Mike had very nice single shot power which has actually become a bit underrated in more recent years.

He did have a great uppercut, no doubts there.

Just in terms of this thread, no real controversy for me, if we’re going to compare it with loads of title fights from boxing history, as someone said earlier (JT I think)?

Your such a casual. A 10 count isn’t literally 10 seconds it’s just the ref waiting to see if he thinks the fighter can continue.

If you check out my first video and go back to 52.40, 8 seconds before Tyson drops him, he bangs in a similar uppercut. It's hard to get a good look but i reckon it got a piece of Douglas if not as clean a piece as the follow up got. It's even possible that first uppercut got enough of him to soften him up for the follow up. Have a look.

Good call - I actually remember that preceding shot, definitely had some good heat on it and a nice precursor to and set up for the KD shot.

I also remember another nice uppercut in the following round, round 9.

Sniffing blood, Buster’s going for it again, leaving himself a bit open, pounding Mike on the ropes but then Mike rips a right uppercut that connects well and halts Buster’s attack and causes him to lurch into the ropes on top of Mike.

Same vid you provided, go to 55:55 for the real time action - after the round there’s a nice replay of the same punch but I don’t think the announcers make any comment - because for the most part it’s obviously Mike who is getting hit.

Commentators missed that one as well. It was a little more obvious than my example too. Tyson was reeling when he landed that late one, not a bad effort.

Referee shoud count out this thread.

    Mike always has an excuse.

Put an asterisk behind all his losses so we can act like they don’t count.

As said before, Douglas was listening to the count and got up when he was supposed to. It doesn’t mean he couldn’t have gotten up if the ref was counting faster. He appeared to be alert and aware.

That said, if I was in Douglas’s corner, I would have been nervous about how close he cut it. Yeah you don’t want to rush it and try to jump to your feet too fast, but I wouldn’t want him to be too patient either. I would prefer my fighter to get up at around 6 or 7 rather than 9.

Douglas had the benefit of the Refs "long" count but the Ref is the Boss in the Ring see Taylor/Chavez etc.

IMO, the bell rang literally after he got up and he needed the extra rest to recover because he was slightly wobbly.

It would have been interesting if Tyson would have landed that shot at the beginning of the round and the follow up might have closed the show

The only problem is that Octavio Meyran IS the ref in charge of this thread.

He commenced the count upon the first post…and he’s still counting.

He’s incrementally reduced his applied time units.

The last numbers tolled that I heard were 9 and 1/1000th, 9 and 2/1000th, 9 and 3/1000th etc.

The man is a human Atomic Clock, a single photon bouncing up and down in his head to provide for the perfect meter and chronological exactitude.

This thread maybe lolling on the canvas at this moment but believe it or not, there is still time to save the day.

Counts in boxing are the ref's count, not a metronome's.
