Had Tyson fought someone like Ray Mercer or Oliver McCall, his come back would have been exposed for what it was. He wouldnt have gotten the better of those two, who were all but impossible to knock out, and had decent power. It would have shown, it wouldnt have taken a Holyfield to have beaten Tyson.
Besides being blown out by Lewis, those contenders he listed and all the others "generally" had all fought each other and been very competitive with noone besides Lewis being a dominant factor. Lets face it, Lewis although fighting in the 90's was still a product of the 80's amatuer program, he just stayed in the amatuers ranks longer to compete in two olympics. Etienne had been competitive with most of what was considered the top contenders. Nielson although fat, and unknown here in the states, was one of the more decorated of all of them being a bronze medalist in the olympics, and being very tough with good boxing skills. I have always mantained that the 90's fighters were a very flawed generation. There was no emerging fighter that was what we call a "complete" fighter, and in fact Lewis wasnt either until 95-96 when Steward was able to mold him a bit. Thats why some of the old timers such as Tyson, Mcall, Lewis, Holmes, Foreman, Mercer, Holyfield, and Tucker, were able to be competitive on a top ten contender or championship level, well past what was considered their prime.
I think the Bowe that beat Holyfield beats the 1991 Tyson . Moorer ends up like Alex Steward or Bruce Seldon.
