I just got done watching him fight for 4 and a half rounds. He was getting pieced and outclassed by the smaller, frail Izzy, getting rocked repeatedly, beaten up and got a come from behind victory by being... bigger and punching hard. When he fights someone his size he's going to get smashed.
Pereira won but he wasn't dominant. Adesanya was close to winning by decision and KO. Pereira was out on his feet and was saved by the bell. But he won fair and square so kudos.
Nah. That's not what happened. Alex was winning the striking in rd 1 before getting clipped at the end, he got the better in rd 2, rd 3 was grappling, rd 4 was him getting a breather and he ended the round strong nailing Adesanya with a hard right hand, rd 5 he stopped him. That's not getting pieced up. That's a competitive fight at least on the feet.
Glad Izzy lost, he seems to try and coast and fight scared all the time. His gameplan backfired, thought that Pereira was gassed and he could coast. Got outsmarted, Pereira conserved to empty the tank late. Should really be no rematch at this point regardless of the disciplines they fought in, its 3-0. Pereira should vacate immediately and move up a division. He only got rocked at the end of round 1 due to the weight cut, not because Izzy has anything on his punches. If he did have any power, the follow up left hook would have flattened him. It was clean enough. Jiri will beat Glover again, Pereira can avenge that for Glover. LHW strap can go back to their camp along with him being a two weight champ in 6 MMA fights.
He was winning on the feet and had tasted the power already, maybe he felt comfortable until it was too late. But you're right, he should had ridden that last round out by trying to get him down again. I generally think he's a smart fighter but that was a failure in fight IQ for sure. But again I don't know how much I can fault him if he felt in control up to that last round. And ya I get why someone would dislike him. I'm not a fan of Frankenstein fighters though.
Maybe the winner of Whittaker and Costa since they are number 2 and 4 in the ranking. They fight in February. I think Pereira knocks out either guy too.
What does that have to do with... anything? Someone said Frankenstein had Wilder level power. That's what I was responding to. What does how would Wilder dealing with kicks have to do with anything.
