I'm so pumped to see this fight and I am shocked for any MMA fan who isn't. This is a huge chance to pit a very very successful boxer (even though badly faded, he probably represents the best boxer to ever come over) boxer in the cage with an MMA fighter.

Randy Couture is past his best. He probably isn't going to get another title shot soon. He is a hall of famer who has been champion 5 times already. I like that he gets to defend MMA. This is a huge fight for Randy Couture in that it is a must win.

I think Randy is going to destroy Toney . Just because I don't think Toney has a chance doesn't mean that I don't want to see the fight though. This is an old school style versus style matchup. Randy is the wrestler and Toney is the boxer. Sure, Randy can box well in MMA but everyone knows he can't box with Toney. We get to see which is the better style in a simulated no rules situation. This is what MMA is all about, an olympic alternate wrestler (with admittedly about a billion times more MMA experience) versus a boxer, that's what I want to see.

People really need to chill out. It's obviously a huge mismatch in terms of MMA experience but Mercer vs Sylvia showed what a boxer can do. If Toney lands, I'd expect Randy to do the Harlem Shake. Problem is that I think Toney is over the hill too. I hope he can hold back father time like Randy has - with hard training!

Dana obviously sees this as an easy win for MMA he has called Toneys bluff. Though obviously it would be a massive embarassement if Toney won. If he gets destroyed or beaten handily which is much more likely. He wins in the 1 upmanship of MMA vs boxing. He will forever have an example of a good boxer getting easily beat in mma etc whilst also generating publicity and intrest from boxing fans who may actually like what they see and turn onto mma a bit more

So many people seem to have a revisionist view of Toney and punching power.

Toney has never been a one punch KO artist, not even at middleweight, Randy has a solid chin and can certainly weather the storm.

Guys, the MMA-Boxing analogies don't work. This isn't the same as putting Couture in a boxing match with Toney. That would be like putting Toney in a wrestilng match with Couture. This is MMA! Toney is world class boxer. We get to see how Toney's strengths match up against Couture strengths. Toney is still allowed to box... and Randy is allowed to wrestle. Get the difference?

This is certainly not a "sideshow" or "freakshow" type of fight. This is a World Class Boxer by nature vs a World Class wrestler by nature. Let's see who wins out. Toney is actually a higher class boxer than Couture is as a wrestler. I don't see why people complain about this fight. This **** is exciting.

If that was the case Dana would have put Toney in vs Lesnar. He is doing Toney a favor by putting him in with a HUGE name MMA fighter who is older than Toney himself, and has been very lethargic on his feet lately.

Couture should win easily. Short of a lucky KO punch coming in for a takedown Toney will get owned by Couture...

Who cares about division rankings? This is an interesting fight. It's a crossroads fight between two aging fighters from opposing disciplines. I can't wait for it.

who really givez a arse ****, the casual fanz INTEREST is what putz a PAY PER VIEW fight over the TOP and the casual fan is ignorant enough that they dont give a **** about either sport 24/7 they just want to follow the story line and see who would win a boxer or a mma fighter while the fight is taking place and then they dont think about it again.

that said the only issue i would have is if randy or toney won either of them getting a title shot or FREE ride far up the rankingz because of the win as this kinda fight to me is a FUN FIGHT that either way meanz nothing.

well assuming that toney dont come charging out of hiz corner catching randy in a flying heel hook

personally speaking this match up doesnt really interest me all that much even in a FUN FIGHT type of way as randyz key to victory would be getting toney off his feet witch i feel would be a fairly doable chore for randy

once off his feet i see toney looking like a freakin amature for however long it takez him to get grounded n pounded or submitted

rather see toney go up against a guy like rampage personally

ragardless save the flying heel hook a victory for either of these guyz would really prove NOTHING

gREAT post and i agree with you on all partz except for one

this is most certainly a SIDESHOW type of FIGHT

toneY IS actually a higher class boxer than randy is a wrestler BUT this widow is a MMA fight and randy has had BUCKETz of them fightz ever since he left the roman greco matz where submitting, kickin and punching aint allowed whereas toney hasnt had a MMA fight to date. get the difference ?

dont matter though i agree this shyte is exciting!

this is the reason the sport was invented.. to put two completely opposing styles together..
