I wouldn't go that far, though keeping a bottle of lotion next to my keyboard is a rather tempting idea :hey
But the problem is a lot of the guys you list to pad Moores credentials he didnt even beat. There have been plenty of fighters with a who's who resume but typically in this sport accomplishments are judged on who you BEAT in the ring not simply who you faced in the ring. Im not saying Moore was a bum by any stretch. He was an all-time great easily but I dont think it makes you any greater to face someone and lose to them.
If this is the case, I say Dave Jaco... Tyson, McCall, Tucker, Douglas, Ruddock, Williams, DuPlooy, Weaver, Foreman, Mason, Morrison, Stewart, Hunter, Cooper...
Since we're also counting losses, how about Tony Canzoneri? Bud Taylor (three times) Johnny Dundee Benny Bass Sammy Mandell Billy Petrolle (twice) Jackie Berg (three times) Kid Chocolate (twice) Barney Ross (twice) Lou Ambers (three times) Jimmy McLarnin (twice) Runners up: Andre Routis (twice), Al Singer (twice), Jackie Jadick (three times), Battling Shaw, Bummy Davis.
Klompton makes a good point. What does it "prove" to lose to a great fighter ? It may or may not prove a lot. But beating great fighters proves more, surely.
Maxie Rosenbloom was just incredible..how in the hell can you have a guy like like that with so many fights against so many guys over so long a period of time, and have such scant filmed documentation on him? It befuddles and frustrates me...him and Greb.
I would have LOVED to see Rosenbloom fight..so se him "schlep" his way through a fight like he did..not even closing his fists, so as "not to hurt anybody", as he once said...amazing fighter..one can only use the imagination as to how he survived so many fights, using his wits.
You can't be serious? Sammy Angott, for instance, fought Hall of Famers more times than that, not to mention contenders. Baby Arizmendi alone is worth about two Tony Tuckers.
Thanks for sticking to the format. Canzoneri is definitely up there, ahead of Barney Ross but maybe just underneath McLarnin. Or equal.
