No doubt. But Shiming doesn't get real HBO dates. This is only on HBO2, on tape delay, far from prime time. It's an early afternoon filler slot. And HBO doesn't pay any of the purses, including Shiming's unreasonable one. If it's only Shiming, it's not worth dialing in. But you get 2 more solid fights that normally wouldn't get on TV. And it costs HBO next to nothing.
Still waiting for the first network to go to Asia or sub 118 for great action fights that will cost, relative to what they pay now, little to no money.
Boxing is not what draws in the channel subscriptions. It's the premiere series they put on like Game of Thrones, Boardwalk Empire, Newsroom, etc. that are bringing in the customers. Showtime will never come out above HBO. Their boxing programming is an afterthought.
Showime has definitely stepped up their game with boxing. A year and half ago this statement was spot on, but this year showtime has outpaced hbo with better match ups. They don't have strike force mma anymore and can focuse more on boxing, they wouldn't give mayweather a 250 million dollar deal if boxing was just a after thought. It's ture their programming and original shows is their focus but boxing is a part of that too.
HBO for the rest of the year. But with GBP essentially only working with SHowtime as is the P4P king, Showtime looks like they'll be putting on the better boxing matchups in the foreseeable future.
This fight doesn't deserve to headline at PPV. Broner should be on Floyd's undercard in a PPV event, that would really help him boost his stock for potential PPV bouts in the future. After his disappointing performance against Paulie, I don't think Adrien at this juncture in his career deserves to be headlining PPV events. If it does happen, I'd expect some **** poor #'s PPV-wise.
