Great. Given that he wasn't a real heavyweight but fought with much success against guys bigger than him, in three decades, says it all.

Why did you leave out Pete Rademacher?

Why did you leave out Patterson's record for being knocked on his ass 20 times as champion?

    Great. Without doubt.

He was the youngest hw champ till Tyson came along (don't come at me with your lineal bull****, just don't) but more then that he was undersized fighting in a division he had no right being in. He also regained his title which none before him could do. Even in the **** storm of the 30's none could regain their crown, plus he defended again against ingo to prove it was no fluke.

People give him **** for avoiding liston but i think that's bs. He avoided Williams and Machen early doors but ingo was more deserving than liston for all 3 fights. Plus he did give Liston a shot, went in for a rematch and then challenged Listons conqueror. His management might have doubted him but he sure had balls.

I mean this was an Olympic middleweight being the hardest man on the planet.

He trounced Moore and no doubt would have done at lhw as well had a limit been in place. Even without giving him the edge in his post title losses, he's still a great.

I'm sure some ***** would refer to him as never being that good but the reality is this man is great.

He is TOP15. Very underrated due to the Liston-losses. He was robbed against Ellis.

In the Ellis bout Jimmy looked sloppy and Floyd never put it into high gear, much as I've tried to give it to Floyd I have it a draw. The Quarry bouts I agree with a shade to Patterson but that wouldn't change ones position for Floyd from very good to great.

What strikes me about this match when I've studied it is how obvious it is that Floyd couldn't pull the trigger on combinations or kick into high gear the way he used to and still put in the damage to get the 'W' on a helluva lot of our cards. This guy had such a young man's style at his peak, and such a risky and gutsy application of that style, and the way he carried on by this stage of his career I feel can only reflect on how truly formidable an athlete he had been. And it more than makes up for a few knocks on his championship years like Rademacher, what he was doing without being able to select that next gear when it suited him.

I see Bill brings up the Rademacher match, not you, so this isn't directed to you, but that's no more farcical a match-up than Holmes/Ali, really, that I can see. Guys who are around a while get into these kinds of fights fairly often. Louis, Holmes, Ali, Klitschko, and Floyd right there with the lot of them. I don't see it negating the good. Anyway, back to the point, you're right, he couldn't kick into the next gear in that fight. That's why as it played out, it left me with little doubt that had that been the Patterson of his championship days against a prime Ellis, he'd have destroyed him and the judges would've had no chance to make an impact on either fellow's career, that night. Because his next gear would've been too much for Ellis, who was at his limit as it was, and Floyd didn't have any trouble finding the next gear in his prime. Ellis was lucky he caught that Floyd, as little amount of luck as I'm sure it felt like when he was eating Floyd's hulk smash.

And she's aging brilliantly, I may add. This woman is nearly fifty. I want to make nik-nik with her more now than I did in 1983. Too much information for you? Well, deal with it, Vic. You brought it up. I mean, the subject. You didn't bring "it" up. :nonono

Just very good imo. Didn't beat any great fighters.
For the next one you should do Jersey Joe Walcott.

Great point. His resume is quite deep and KO'ing Archie Moore, who was on a very impressive run, is somewhat underrated. Two decades of fighting and beating top heavyweights. He's always going to be second tier at best when it comes to heavyweights, but there' no doubt he's a great fighter.

Well, it's nik-nik related, but I'm far too coy by nature to say what it is exactly.

I have definitely thought of doing Walcott. I have Walcott, J. L. Castillo, Brian Mitchell and Kostya Tszyu on my list. And I think Walcott deserves the nod more than the other three but I'm interested in cases for and against each of those guys that might come up. But your second line makes me wonder how you scored the Moore fight. :p
