LaMotta was in many ways, an overrated ape. If he fought today, he'd be at least a cruiserweight, but something tells me he go the way of James Toney. LaMotta was a tough guy from an incredibly tough era. As middleweight champs go, I think he is often overrated. As middleweight contenders go, few came tougher. Pazienza was a natural lightweight that made the most of his abilities. Having spent considerable time speaking with him a few years back, I can tell you he was realistic where his skills were concerned, and he'd be the first to tell you that Jake would win. Keep one thing in mind though. Jake wasn't a bigger hitter, per se.....and Paz had a hell of a chin. If Pazienza could successfully defend against sharp and prolonged inside fighting, he would lose a decision sans all the crimson.
rubber you think he would be a cruiser even though it would be easier for him to make the weight as weigh ins are held 48 hours before a fight
I would love to see this one. These two guys couldn't be more different in temperament. LaMotta a plodding, unfazed, unimpressed, glib, unemotional machine, Paz a volatile, heart over matter, inspired, at times a miracle worker, by all rights Jake is undaunted and unruffled and wins every round. But that's why I loved Vinny Pazienza, his heart took him well beyond his skills. The guy was in my opinion magical at times. I love this guy. Unfortunatley, if I had to bet this fight I'd go with the Bull. This fight could come down to how much or how little blood your guy leaves on the canvass. My guy liked to bleed.
you are aware that lamotta beat suger ray robinson whose considerably faster and stronger with better defense then paz could ever dream of having .. right?
Although you make a very valid point, something deep inside of me thinks LaMotta would eat big if he were around today. Of course, it could play to the reverse and you may be right.
I don't think anybody is arguing that Paz would win or that he had beaten anybody of the caliber of a Ray Robinson. Paz made the most of his abilities and in a very real sense, he was an overachiever. Having watched a lot of Jake LaMotta, I cannot recall him "raping" anybody. Having watched what it took to finally finish Pazienza in the Jones JR fight, I am far and away confident that LaMotta would not be "raping" Paz at any point.
Forget beating SRR ,anyone who beats bangers like Murphy and Satterfield , and cuties like Williams ,beats Paz handily.
No disrespect to Paz he was a warrior and one of my favorite fighters of the last 20 years. And of course you dont recall Jake "raping" anybody its a word usually not associated with boxing. Paz is tough and could very well take Jake the distance, but in the end Jake would whoop his ass. The size difference is too much and Jake is a caliber above Vinny. If you dont like the word "****" replace it with "winning very decisively". :smooch
can see that too but i think he did kill himself to make middle in those days so i think he has self discipline and would exercise that and maybe get as low as light middle
