If you think Hunter is a shitty trainer I'd love to see what Andre Ward would look like under a "good" one.

I disagree. While we did see improvements in Khan with Roach he never fixed the defensive flaws in Khan or get rid of his many bad habits such as over committing with the right hand, throwing himself of balance when rushing forward, throwing stupid combinations etc.

Khan never learned how to counter, never learned how to clinch effectively to help him survive when hurt and never learned how to transition effectively from defence to offence and vice versa. Khan's defence was just to hold his hands up more or run more, that's very basic and something any trainer could do.

In Khan's last fight we saw improvements. Khan countered for the first time ever, he pot shotted with the right hand more to mix up his attack, when Khan did over commit or find himself out of position he clinched effectively instead of just standing there with his hands up waiting to be hit like he used to. Khan also showed inside skills which led to the first knockdown.

Khan under Hunter is less exciting, less dynamic and some will see that and ignore the improvements. A less exciting Khan is a more effective Khan, Khan as a boxer/spoiler is better than the predictable Khan of old.

The fact that he isn't smart enough to realize this is what makes him a dreadful trainer. Roach is capable of training a wider variety of fighters, knows what to and what not to change and is intelligent enough to know what fighters not to work with because they wouldn't be a good fit for what he has to offer. Hunter is just an ignorant narcissist unaware of his limitations and his trash talking of Roach and his merit as a trainer just highlights that. Hunter is a one trick brain dead pony boy.

The problem isn't the trainer. The problem is Khan.

hey i agree with everything you said but even with all that i still think he was better under roach, even though being knocked out and being caught always seemed imminent i just think that style siuted him and being caught with something big every now and again was worth the risk of his offensive game which was predictable but hard to stop. i think he losing his running ability now a little bit but well see how he gets on now against alexander there was a big change from diaz to colazo maybe therell be another jump

Hunter is garbage. Teaches guys to jab n grab. If refs would stop letting guys hold as part of their game plan hunter would be obsolete.

Freddie's mentor was the late great Eddie Papa Smurf Futch.
Freddie learned from the best. Khan made a big mistake leaving Freddie for Hunter

exactly. hunter teaches a system instead of taking a fighters strengths and helping him to make the most of them. if you dont have the temperament and instincts needed for his system, youre not going to be successful. his little bag of tricks will only work with a very small percentage of fighters.

I don't get it why most fighters change trainers after a loss and make people think it's the trainers fault. Are they not man enough to admit they as a fighter should shoulder some if not most of the blame for the loss. Why not stick it out because I'm sure both trainer and fighter would learn from that loss and come out better the next fight.

    All coacges have their failures.

For the Pacquiao that Roach trained and the Hearns,Lewis's that Stewart trained, theres a bunch of guys who never made it.

The fighter is the most important thing.
