Exactly. Trainers will correct so you can do adjustments and improve your power. You can feel the difference on the mitts too.

There are just some idiots here who do not know ****

Absolute gospel. Old school pad work not choreographed pitter patter dance moves.

Looks Hollywood and thats about where it should stay.

Some pad work is more routine based e.g.

Some are more technically analytical like Virgil's. he goes through technique analysis more than an actual routine in his pad work

What 'old school' pad work are you talking about? Certainly not any that Dempsey, Louis, Marciano, Ali, Foreman, Frazier, etc did. Other than working on Defense or using it to warm up etc. it is useless unless you want to upload your 'pad workout' to youtube.:rofl

Guys grab pads now and think they are a 'Trainer' and putting a fighter through some rigorous training session. Hard sparring is where you hone your craft not on some silly pads :rofl:patsch

The keyboard warriors on here are the EXACT people Steward was talking about in the youtube interview I posted.

Old school = No bollocks choreographed 50 shot combos, slips rolls, blocks and high fives. Pad work is used by most as a crucial punch and engine conditioning tool. Honing offense, defensive and counter reactions as well as ring craft and footwork. All the while teaching shot selection for scenarios in which a fighter might find themselves. Of course there is no substitute for sparring but there is no question that pad work allows a trainer to help the fighter erradicate technical faults. Whether it be a lazy returning jab, lack of head movement, not following through with hooks and fine tuning rolling in and out of combinations, stepping off and targeting the body (body bag). Hard hitting pad work is incredibly Anerobic and a crucial element of training. Hollywood pads are merely showbiz and are best served as a warm up to the real thing.
