why did you bring up Glass Jaw Roy in a Vitali thread joke? :huh Let's not take this thread off topic. I will be glad to start a Glass Jaw Roy thread if you want to discuss what a cherrypicker he was all the evidence is there. :good
Like I said... look again. I didn't bring him up. I responded to someone else, just like you did. The difference is that at least when I was discussing him it was in relation to the topic, ie RJJ's resume versus Vitali's. You are the one who started blabbing about some unrelated garbage. :deal
Me too. :yep There is no denying that Roy hand-picked some opponents once HBO gave him his open contract. But there is also no denying that he also beat some great fighters along the way.
All fighters have their share of handpicked opponents, it's normal. No one can go through a brutal training camp for every single fight, that would finish off a fighter mentally and physically early. Easy fights are only normal along the way.
Remember when he took on Lennox Lewis on 2 weeks notice? bhah hah ah hah. what a ***** and a cherry picker always taking the easy fights. Thats just like the time he came back after 4 years and fought the second ranked heavyweight of the world with no tune up fight. God he is such a *****.
It's not like he was having time off and answered a call for a fight in 2 weeks. He was already in training for possibly the most high-profile fight of his career. Lennox was in "training" for a blow-out of an easy target in a insignificant "keep busy" fight. If he had dumped his WBOgus belt and gone after prime Lennox, that would be something.
Don't think Vitali was training for someone like Lewis no matter who he was fighting, there was no one out there in Lewis' style or even ability for Vitali to be training well enough for and to be confident enough to accept on 2 weeks notice. Both ran into each other unexpectedly and the result was final, Lewis won.
True, but he was still training for a huge fight in terms of hs career and exposure. Lennox on the other hand was training for someone who couldn't have been more different to Vitali if he tried - a light-punching elusive runner, who Lennox was clearly aiming to blow out early judging by his conditioning.
Sanders, Williams, Peter, Bean, Donald, Purrity, Johnson and Hide are pretty good wins. Compare his record with others in the division even though he has been retired for 4 years. As I said if it wasn't for his retirement they had really nice plans for good fights the public were badly waiting for. Sadly his injury pushed him back and we can't hold that against him.
Nor can we act like we KNOW what would have happened if he hadn't got injured. It's like the Ibeabuchi myth. Some folks think he would have cleaned out the division based on his early career. Now, this may be true, but we don't KNOW that. Imagine if Sam Peter retired after the Jeremy Williams fight. People would be saying he was a potential ATG, would have demolished "glass chin" Wlad etc... Reality isn't that simple.
Yes we did know what he was planning to do because he signed for fights and spoke about others. Ibeabuchi went to prison all of a sudden and the only thing we heard of him before that regarding future plans is that he wants to fight Holyfield, Lewis and Tyson in the future. You make a very good point of course but Vitali's plans were right there. He was set to fight Rahman, had to postpone because of injuries, then it was postponed again and Rahman had to fight Barrett so he sent an offer to Toney which Toney ducked, then the Rahman fight is on again and he's injured. Not to forget possible plans to fight Brewster as well. He was still in the mix trying to make fights but his injury pushed him back so his plans were right there.
Uppercut83 is definitely a better poster than Uppercut 1-82. Well maybe not, those guy are all dumb too.
