The International Boxing Hall of Fame and Museum announced today the members of the Class of 2018. Inductees include three Modern category boxers who all enter the Hall in their first year of eligibility; heavyweight champion “Dr. Ironfist” Vitali Klitschko, four-division world champion Erik “El Terrible” Morales and light middleweight champion Ronald “Winky” Wright. Non-participants and observers to be inducted include German promoter Klaus-Peter Kohl and broadcasters Steve Albert and Jim Gray. Morales deserves it, and I don't necessarily debate Vitali (although, he could certainly have waited a few years to get in). But, Winky wright getting in ahead of many of the others on that list is garbage. Forget about smaller entrants like Arbachakov and Nazaroff who were more skilled than him. Fighters his own size like Julian Jackson an Nigel Benn would have beaten the dog **** out of Winky Wright.
I agree Wright was a bit of a reach, though he does have wins over Mosely, Quartery, and Trinidad ( not the best versions of them. The good news, only three fighters made it. There could be as many as five modern fighters enshrined per year, so it was not water-downed as it could have been The hall of fame has weaker members than Wright.
