But he's always in shape . trim , focused , dedicated 2 win , doesn't eat coke/crack flavored ice creams and is a much bigger man . So despite his skill being mediocre or even below , he would have beaten them all .
I don't think some of them were much more than Kirk Johnson or Larry Donald , like it or not . At least Johnson & Donald weren't stopped by Journeymen or even by ppl whom were stopped by Journeymen .

As much as I hate to say it, I'd have to favor Klitschko in most of the match-ups.

Johnson and Donald wouldn't have won belts in the 80s. They were simply a cut below. Tony Tubbs let himself go aesthetically, but at least he was actually skilled. Not sure what Johnson's excuse was.

Vitaly Klitschko is a great fighter so you shouldn't hate to say it.

Honestly, I'd favor him too, but I don't think he walks away undefeated in those 9 fights. I think he picks up a loss or two.

I agree with the consensus that these guys would do better than his actual opponents.

This basicaly should have been a strong era, but too many of the top fighters got derailed.

Which ones do you think Vitali would not be favored to defeat?

Consider this. Vitali is still dominating the division at age 40, easily dispatching multiple ranked opponents, without losing more than 2 consensus rounds on any card.

Vitali won the vacant WBC belt from Corrie Sanders when Lewis refused to re-match. Since then he has won 10 consecutive WBC title matches in a row. I think any fighter who can do that is dominating his time. How many heavyweights have won 10 title matches in a row?

Disagree about them not winning a belt in d 1980s , u can also add 39 years old Corrie Sanders (once he was listed as born in 1964 , once in 1965 (this 1 wasn't in boxrec) and now in 1966) .
i think even old Corrie Sanders could have won a belt in d 1980s simply by blitzing/overwhelming some1 especially if he was given more than 1 chance 2do so which is fair enough . i read Johnson knocked Ross Puritty down and was knocking Ike Ibeabuchi in sparring . He also stopped Lou Savaresse and outpointed Larry Donald and KOd Oleg Maskaev . As I stated b4 he was never stopped by a journeyman or by a man who was stopped by a journeyman , unlike those 80s bunch whom were barely distinguishable from journeymen , yes i typed it .
Were they better than Tillis , Cooper & Fergusson because they won belts ? only in classic forum opinion . Tommorrow morning when we c my vcash big , we will know better who is d better predictor :hey:deal:yep:D:blurp:happy:tong

Without the drugs and eating problems Tubbs, Tucker and Witherspoon all could give Vitali a serious run on their best nights.

Tubbs was very closing to beating Holyfield and he had the skills and fast hands to make Vitali look cumbersome and slow.

Dokes had height, skills and a nice win over Buster Douglasm to suggest he would be a lot better than almost all of Vitalis opponents.

Witherspoon was a quality operator. He took a still decent Holmes all the way to a split decision. Seriously blew his talent.

These guys are just so much better than the fighters on the K's resumes. The quality of coke in the 80's was just too good.

And if my aunt had a pair, she would be my uncle.

Let's talk about what did happen rather than what we would like to image could have happened.

That will only ever make you favour the old timers over more modern fighters!

Wlad and Vitali have common opponents. Vitali did better vs Sanders, Purrity, and Peter. The only fighter Wlad did better against was Byrd, but the shoulder tear is the reason why. If Vitali fights Haye, he will knock him out.

Neither rides the others coat tails. Both are going to be in the boxing hall of fame.

They make a good team for sure but:

Since Wlad got to the top of the division he has been fighting the opponents ranked in the top 5, while Vitally has generaly been matched against numbers 5-10, or guys that Wlad has already beaten.

Ultimately, Wlad ended up holding all the belts except one that he graciously alows his brother to keep.

I understand that circumstances have played a big role in this, but it is how history turned out.

I don't think it is out of line to say Vitali who is always in shape and prepared for a fight would beat the majority of guys from an era that were often out of shape and under prepared. It isn't called the Lost Generation of Heavyweights for no reason.

Given Vitali's Iron Chin, stamina, and lean back awkward style he would beat the majority of those guys.
