How would you rate his chin? On one hand, he was never knocked down. On the other hand, he didn't fight that many hard punchers other than Lewis, Sanders, and Peter.

low grade opponents but no falls. gotta be a good chin, theres no question.

but impossible to tell if its top grade (elite) chin from 5 rounds with worst (but still elite) lewis, and two guys only good for 6 round fights.

Make no mistake, Vitali clearly got the iron chin gene and Wladimir got the paper chin gene. Vitali took bombs from a very heavy Lennox Lewis that night and he didnt stop. Doesnt matter what your KO ratio is at heavyweight, if you get hit on the button and your chin isnt sturdy, lights out.

9/10 for Vitalis chin from me.

Vitali took shots from both Sanders and Lewis who were huge punchers.

Among the best in the history of the division. Vitali is one of two heavyweight champions never to be floored, and he was hit by bombs from Lewis, Sanders, and Hide.

    9.5 to 10 out of 10.

Good , but overrated. The shell of Mike Tyson took more Lewis uppercuts than Vitali in the first round alone and he barely flinched. The power of the punch was a lot harder on Tyson's chin than it was on Vitali's.

The old , over weight and slow Lewis that fought Vitali would have been beaten by prime Holyfield and prime Tyson easily.

Granite no doubt. He took a nuclear uppercut from Lewis and laser lefts from Sanders and didn’t budge. Never went down in his whole career.

Way overrated. I think he had a good chin, nowhere near great. I think his awkward style played a major role in this. If I recall correctly Corrie Sanders had him stumbling all over the ring like a drunkard. Maybe I'm remembering wrong but I'm pretty sure there were one or two of those instances in that fight. He also took some certified bombs from Sanders and wasn't fazed at all.

Being the far less physically gifted and talented boxer than his brother Wladamir I think forced him to developing SERIOUS mental toughness and some big ass stones. I think those were the major differences between the two. Anytime Wladamir got clowned Vitali was always hellbent on fighting and trying to annihilate Wladamir's conquerors. Win or lose, he wanted to get in there and bang it the eff out. Vitali was a effing dog, no doubt about it and had way bigger stones than Wlad. Vitali was the Alpha of those two, Wlad definitely the beta.

    This.

He took some of the hardest bombs I've seen and never went down. That Lewis uppercut was just ridiculous; if he hit other HW's like that they'd be catching their heads with a net. Sanders managed to counter him coming in and it's the first time I ever saw him land that shot flush to no effect. Usually the guys dropped like skittles.

Sanders rocked him pretty hard late in the 1st round.

9/10 for me. Staggered a couple of times by Sanders, took an old Lewis' power well. Needed some more punchers to test that chin tho to be rated any higher. I could see a 9.5/10 for him though.

Sanders landed a hell of a lot more punches on average chinned Rahman than he did Vitali. The Sanders Vitali fought was the worse that ever stepped into the ring. Guys like Whyte and Chisora would beaten that Sanders. That fight says nothing about his chin strenght. In fact his career is empty of wars outside the Lewis fight in which he lost and was bambi legged off a stiff Lewis jab.
Impossible to rate his chin 9/10 simply because there is no evidence to suggest it. 215 pound Željko Mavrović took way more punishment off Lewis than Vitali did and handled it a lot better.
Footage suggests he had a better chin than Vitali.

Bruno had Tyson visibly rocked. So did Douglas, neither hit in Lewis or Sanders class. Not that Mike could take a punch, he could just not as well as Vitali

Alas, that was not the worst version. :( He managed to get older and fatter than that.

Yeah , he got tagged and ran to the other side of the ring in the blink of an eye. It also looked like he was dropped in the 2nd or 3rd but it wasn't called.
Vitali was a guy that didn't get hit much , that doesn't mean he has one of the best chins in history. Thats frankly an insult to boxing history to claim such a thing.
Marciano was a legit 9/10 even though he was dropped twice. Never been floored just means you never fought anyone and thats certainly true when you look at Vitali's resume.
