Lyakhovic got knocked out by briggs. When vitali fought briggs it was rightfully derided as one of the worst fights in recent history, this is one of the few guys who actually lost to the mismatched briggs. Hell he lost clearly to the supposed "worst heavyweight champion in history" he put up less of a fight then john ruiz did! No I call bull****, noway would vitali make this pathetic matchup.
Because Vitaly has no intention of quitting, that is why. I know Chef says two more fights, and I believe that is what Vitaly is telling him and Wladdy. He probably believes it himself. But Vitaly also said 2010 was his last year, and we see how that worked out. Hell, he's already retired once. This is the thing tho, lyakhovic doesn't improve his resume imo. Since coming back he has improved it with his victories over peter, arreola and solis. Lyak is the worst opponent he'll have faced since his comeback. There are more meaningful fights to be made than this.
Sure it does. Not in any major way, but its a former champ on the resume- anyother name that can be mentioned. And don't forget that Vitaly is older than Serhei. Vitaly can get way with fighting guys like Likovich and Briggs because he can always plausibly say that he himself is the older and more shopworn fighter. You are 100% right that it is not a great fight and does not add any knew dimesnisons to his record, but what I am saying is that it is a very good tune up fight, and he can afford it because I do not believe that he is quitting any time soon.
I'm gonna go on a hunch and say we're both in total agreement here. The only reason you accept it is due to the opinion you have that vitali will not retire any time soon, and considering that a fight against an ex title holder is somewhat credible. I don't accept it because i'm of the opposite belief that this will be his last year and lyakhovic won't break his top 5 victories.
he is not wasting time. If it happens it's just a stay busy fight to avoid being inactive. If anything, being inactive instead of fighting Lyakovich would be a waste of time, which you aptly pointed out is something he is not in a position to do.
