My memory of the situation is that below the Klitschko brothers, it was 1A and 1B. But it was always Haye that was the "1A." For whatever that is worth. They were both seen as the top contenders, but oversized and coming up in weight. Even their HW ranking and people's opinions on their H2H ability at HW was based largely on what they had done at Cruiserweight... But Haye was always seen as the "better" or "tougher" fight between the two when those fights were made. However, the sentiment was pretty well accepted the moment the fights were signed that Haye should have fought Vitali and Adamek should have fought Wladimir, for the sake of styles leading to a potential upset.

a 6'7 250 lbs HW champion who's never lost more than 3 rounds in a fight vs a former LHW, it had to be a one-sided beatdown, though I really thought Adamek would at least have a plan B, btw, Vitali was came in at his lightest weight since the Sanders fight against Adamek, just goes to show he actually took Adamek quite seriously

It was a great performance but Adamek was never really a serious threat at HW. In fact, no one has been a serious threat at HW for several years due to K2 being so dominant.
