Vitali was easily winning every round against Byrd, but had a severe shoulder injury. After the fight he had over 2.5 hours of surgery. Vlad went ahead and beat the crap out of Byrd two times. Watch those fights.................Vitali has the highest KO percentage in heavyweight champion boxing history, not to mention other reasons he is the world records. He was still holding his own-even with fighting like he had one arm tied behind his back(he only could see out of one eye) Lewis couldn't believe the toughness and true grit he was up against -esp after he had so under-rated the man Lewis wanted no part of this man and a rematch I remember the fight. Vitali woke up after and became a great champion-destroying everyone in his path-no hate here
When people suggest he ducked the rematch, I look at it this way; Imagine if Vitali faced the likes of; Tyrell Biggs, Donovan Ruddock, Tony Tucker , Frank Bruno, Tommy Morrison, Ray Mercer, Oliver McCall x2, Prime Shannon Briggs, Evander Holyfield x2, David Tua, Hasim Rahman x2, Old Mike Tyson and then faced a 31 year old Lennox Lewis in his prime who destroyed Andrew Golota. Then you realize how great it was what Lewis did.
