Nah, there's not. Neither Schmeling nor Patterson has any real case for being ranked above Dempsey. Neither Schmeling nor Patteron has any real case for being ranked above Langford.
I disagree on Dempsey. I like him, he had an awesome career but his resume is a bit thin, even compared with those two. May be down to my criterias though.
Folks, former ring greats like "Peter Jackson, Joe Choyinski, Sammy Langford, Bobby Fitzsimmons, Harry Wills, Mad Max Schmeling, Ezzard Charles, Jersey Joe Walcott and Floyd Patterson" rank favorably within the elite members of the heavyweight division between 1887 to 1960...... BUT! Come '60, the buck stops........ I seriously doubt any of them deceased former fighters would do well in the era of the POST 1960 heavyweight.......... WORD!! MR.BILL
I love ya MRBILL, but I don't see it that way, even purely head to head. Who you got in Louis-Liston by the way?
Duel scenario............ Liston early or Louis scores a KO somewhere in the middle rds of a 15 rounder............ Liston has a real chance here of Icing Louis early on, but I kinda' doubt it......... Still, again, Liston early or Louis by KO 8 over Liston....... This match never see's round 15....... NO! :good MR.BILL
I see this topic is still a guaranteed 15-pager... McGrain, If Vitali Klitschko knocks out Haye in his next fight and then retires, or fights another Sosnowski type of opponent, looks bad but wins and retires, would you rate him top15? Top20? By the way, if i were Haye, i'd aim for Vitali. I think he looked pretty bad in his last two outings, but still good enough for Haye to get massive credit if he wins. Despite VK's outstanding chin, i think at this moment it's a much more winnable fight that Wlad is.
Not impossible. Once he gets retired,he kind of settles in...what he achieved in terms of longevity takes on it's natural resonace (credit rarely delivered to such a fighter whilst active). My favourite thing about Vitali is his proffessionalism. He stayed really focused. You maybe have to go back to Marciano to find a comparable HW in this regard. Even Calzaghe's standing was enhaced when he retired, although his competition ended up being marginally better. No doubt. I've said this from the start. He wants Vitali. Wlad will knock him out. I still expect Haye's feet/chin/dis-orgnised style to betray him, but he's got the freshness and speed to pull of the shock.
His brother? After watching the Sosonowski bout I think this one is pretty even. I think it would be great if Haye retires Vitali and then fights Wlad. Would be big.
Wlad has generally fought better fighters, which is easier to get up for. He also hasn't proven himself able to prepare himself into his late late thirties.
The soon to be 34 year old Wladdy Klit looked pretty goddamn passive for 10 rds to me when he FINALLY stopped a slick but punchless Eddie Chambers in round 12 last March..... MR.BILL:thumbsup
