feigning a trembling leg (a completely gratuitous gesture if indeed he was faking) on a prayer that the ref would call a DQ when we was way up in the fight and could have won the fight by running for 4 minutes?

Ask yourself the question. Hypothetically, if you were going to fake being knocked out would you go overboard and start convulsing your legs? Or would you maybe just lie there and roll over once?

I think the poll needs more clarification. A choice between acting and hurt isn't the issue.

I have no doubt he was hurt.
I believe the slip on the wet logo was legit.
I know he was hit when down.
I agree that Abraham SHOULD have been DQ.

The degree to how hurt Andre was is where I disagree. I think he KNEW he was hurt and in his exhausted condition he KNEW he couldn't get up and continue fighting.

In short, he was hurt....but aware in my opinion. How ever you want to slice it, he deserved the victory and Abraham deserved the DQ for hitting him when he was down.

on what basis do you make assertions about his "awareness"? All evidence points to his not being aware -- i.e. eyes shut and legs trembling. And yet you seem to have access to Dirrell's inner states. How, may I ask, did you come by such knowledge?

Add that in with the fact he started crying because he thought he had lost the fight and there you go and the fact that he hit the canvas one second after the shot landed, he is either the greatest actor and mastermind to ever live OR he was actually hurt. Now I'm sure Dirrell is a smart guy, but I'm going with the second choice.

that shot- wouldve ****in hurt. no faking necessary. i dont care how tough you are- that shot would have hurt the most rugged of guys.

i can recall a street fight i was in , it somehow ended up as a grappling match , and i threw the guy onto the ground. as he was getting up slowly he was looking down at his hands, not really fully recovered- and i threw a left hook- with my feet unplanted, and off balance, it was literally the softest left hook i have ever thrown, but i just wanted to keep hitting him. it was as hard as you would perhaps give someone a hard high five.
    BUT
because, he wasnt prepared for it- didnt see it coming and couldnt brace, he crumpled. I was shocked becasue i htought i just tapped him. he was out cold for 2 minutes at least. im not proud of this story btw- but im just telling it to illustrate that a shot, fully planted by a beast like AA, would have knocked AD into the future.

I have not seen acting like that since Riddick Bowe. Someone posted a fight where Michalczewski was faking a blow too.

Dirrell's head was clear when he looked over at his corner, then decided to pretend to be knocked out. Cole cheated Abraham out of a legit knockdown. Refused to call a cut from headbutt, unintentional, but headbutt. Overlooked low blows also. Cole has a history of siding with hometown boxers. Check it out. Abraham always gives away early rounds. He was finally catching up with Dirrell. I hope he gets to knock Dirrell you in the future, "if" Dirrell gets by Ward.

The poll should have an option, "a bit of both", ie hurt and exaggerating it.

In my opinion he was buzzed, and embarrassed, cos he had made a huge mistake not defending himself when the ref hadn't made a ruling on the slip. I think he chickened out of continuing because he felt he wasn't A1 and there was the possibility Abraham could overpower him and steal the fight. Obviously he was not as badly hurt as he made out, because if he had been, he would have suffered serious damage and would be out of the tournament. He just overcooked it.
