116-112 For Hagler. Ray looked good the last 20-30 seconds of most rounds, but used 0 power and ran the other 2 1/2 min of the rounds.
I agree with Lou Filippo's scoring. 115-113 in favor of Hagler. I'm not sure what fight Guerro was watching, because it was a close fight.
It was. A classic case of a fight that could have gone either way. I've always had it for Leonard by a round or two, though.
how any one can give the fight to hagler is beyond me....srl landed far more punches and was never hurt ...
The guy who had Tyson ahead against Douglas? 'Cause that is the single strangest scorecard I've seen.
Sure he was. Never really badly, but there was that moment where Hagler landed a hard left and then pinned him on the ropes.
What to expect from this thread: - Leonard retiring and waiting five years for the sole purpose of avoiding a middleweight, only emerging from retirement to pick up what was left of Hagler's decomposed remains - Leonard doing absolutely nothing for two and a half minutes and only throwing punches in the last thirty seconds. This occured in every single round throughout the bout. - Leonard's punches had absolutely no power behind them. They couldn't hurt or even stun Hagler, therefore they should not be treated as clean scoring blows. To be honest,I'll be worried when the Hagler apologists stop rehashing the same old, repetitive topics that have already been done to death. Then again,I can understand just how embarrassing it must be for a man, who's supposedly the very best fighter in the world,to get outboxed by an inactive fighter who had peaked some five years and two weight classes below ago.
I've always had it close either way but i have to admit that i hated Leonard & was extreamly pissed off with Marvin for even giving that **** a shot & the way Marv went about the fight. I now know with 20+ years hindsight that i was looking for something that really was'nt there, we're all guilty of it, it ai'nt a deliberate concious self deception but a sub-concious one thats hammering & screaming away inside yer head bursting to get out about how to right a percieved injustice unfolding before yer eyes. I sat & watched this fight again last month or so on spec after getting in from the boozer, so while munching away on a donar kebad after 10 pints of Becks & texting money demands while watching the action roll by round by round it suddenly dawned on me that that charlatan ******* Leonard was absolutley waltzing it big time. I did'nt want to believe what i was watching & with the benifit of having english commentary from Reg Gutterige & Jim Watt who kept the verballs to the absolute minimum it was obvious now too me that Leonard out punched out thought & out scored & out done everything & anything that Hagler did & for years i slagged down that mex judge for his loony-toon scorecard but i now can see how he got there no problem. Hagler threw it away from the 1st ring a ding, he was just too slow & Leonard matched him punch 4 punch & as we know thanks to Marvins dickhead inferiority complex in going orthodox & wanting to outbox leonard handed the fight on a plate to the man i depise immensely. I had it 118-112 for Leonard & thats being generous to one of my all time favorites whom i have defended vigorously ever since that fight but watching this fight again with virtualy no commentary after 10 pints combined with an elephants fart kebab you just had to give due credit to that **** Leonard who did what he had too do albeit with the complience of an idiot Hagler + clown corner. Marvin made himself look stupid in the build up to this fight & compounded it by fighting like a mug in those 1st 4/5 rounds leaving him after 7 or 8 at the latest to find the KO he thought he'd easily get & Leonard knew that & never gave Hagler an opportunity & i bet if Leonard had a shred of honesty about him he'd admit that he must have been absolutly shocked at the way Hagler handed over his belts in such a pathetic dumb & stupid way. Leonard landed more punches regardless of them being pitter/patter or whatever & he'd flurrie & get away scot free time & time again as marvin just winged in with a hope & a prayer. If Hagler had jumped on the **** from the off he'd have exhausted Leonard by the mid way mark & proberbly got the TKO by 8 at the lastest but he instead chose to ponce & pose & looked a right **** in doing it so handing over round after round after round. I've not an ounce of sympathy for Marvin!!! He ****in BLEW IT & trundling foreward scowling ai'nt puch scoring IMO but i've got too give that chalatan leonard his full due he won it handsomly & now i can't even think about how on earth i scored it for Hagler all those years ago, but i do know, i wanted Marvin to WIN & he DID'NT so someone's to blame so blame the judges for Haglers ineptitude as it's the easy way when sometimes we are all blind men who don't want too see.
I thought that Hagler won. I don't think the scoring was rigged, but I do think Leonard was the sentimental favorite, glory-boy, guy who was supposed to WIN THE EVENT, to use a new term from the general forum. I think many judges are dubiously impressed by these flashy, combination throwers, regardless of whether the punches land flush or not....note the career of one Muhammed Ali if you'd like support for my theory.
Guerra's score was disgraceful. It really taints the decision, seeing as it was for the winner of an SD, it was effectively the deciding vote. And it was the vote of a madman.
Hagler's punches were crisper and more effective. Ray threw more, but most of his punches were glancing off of Marvin's shoulders and gloves. Few were really clean, hard shots. Marvin's punches were landing cleaner and had more impact.
