I'm not, they are the 3 worst in boxing currently. It would be unfair to omit him. Hopkins arguably, but I tend to be softer on him since he wasn't always quite so bad and has some boxing skill to complement it.
Yes. Not a cheat, or dishonourable - he wouldn't ever have faked having suffered a low blow, or tried to break an arm - but he is guilty of extreme gamesmanship, certainly. The best example is the heel of the hand in Bruno's face whilst dropping massive right hands onto the striken fighter's face. The persistant leaning on Mike Tyson was ropey, as well.
Yeah, Lennox was dirty; and, Wlad does just about everything you listed above. Both are tall fighters who take fulll advantage of their height.
Lennox was a dirty fighter... Holyfield was a dirty fighter.. Akinwande was a dirty fighter.. Tyson was a dirty fighter.. Golota was a dirty fighter.. Riddick Bowe was a dirty fighter.. Samuel Peter can be a dirty fighter.. Bruno was a dirty fighter.. Ibragimov was a dirty fighter.. Ruiz was a dirty fighter.. SO WHAT.......... Boxing is not like cake decorating.......
Agreed. There is no question that Lennox was a dirty fighter. But it is important to note that Lennox wasn't a "cheap ******* piece of ****." He didn't headbutt, he didn't overly clinch to extend fights and fool judges, etc... His dirtiness was very game. He is nothing like Evander, B-Hop, Ruiz, or others that blatantly cheat with low tactics to get ahead.
I don't think he was a dirty fighter. I think he was a good student. He did everything Steward told him to do. That is the only thing he is guilty of. That Peter thing is hilarious! "Doink" "Doink"!
[yt]M0Gf3ywLCWs [/yt] Check out Lewis and his hitting and holding till the fight is stopped - in this clip of the knockout. *Only need to watch the first minuet of clip*
Most fighters get up to dirty tactics... for example.. On Low blowing Hopkins.... Calzaghe said: “When I hit him there in the second round, that was proper deliberate. He’d knocked me down in the first so I had to give him a dig, didn’t I?” He blatently low blowed Kessler as well. At the end of round two I think it was.
Lennox may have done some things considered dirty by some, but compared to his contemporaries (Headbutting Holyfield, and uh.. well **** man, Tyson bit off someones ear, tried to break Botha's arm, and raped at least one woman!), he was a ****ing saint. And I don't remember him ever doing any of this stuff to the point that a ref had to do any more than just a quick warning. And as for hitting while holding... its not like Lennox's game plan was to hold onto his opponents then hit them. If he was in a clinch, he threw little punches. Almost every fighter throws arm punches if the can during a clinch. IT just so happens that Lennox's arms are 90 feet long, and can generate enough leverage to do damage in a clinch. In reality, Lennox was one of the cleanest heavyweights of the era, and one of the cleanest fighters regardless of weight class. And to whoever mentioned Hopkins's MAYBE faking damage from a low blow: 1) If you get hit low and you need a breather, why shouldn't you? What is so dishonorable about this? MANY fighters do this. Really, you can't know if a low blow hurt or not. So for all you know, EVERY fighter that gets time to recover is faking. 2) Is Calzaghe throwing an intentional low blow not to get back for a low blow - but to get back for a KNOCK DOWN really any more honorable than faking being hurt from a low blow? To me Calzaghe admitting that is REALLY foul. IF someone hits you low, and you pop him back - its unnecessary yes, but I can see why you would do it. But if you get knocked down by a punch you didn't see coming - is the proper response to hit the guy in the balls? NO! The proper response is to knock HIM down. Hitting someone low because the got the better of you and scored a knock down, I think is REALLY low. Just pathetic. Its like admitting "I can't actually land anything good on you or hurt you Bernard - so I'm going to punch your dick to prove that I can fight too." And btw Lennox did NOT throw rabbit punches! His arms are so long that his punches would sometimes go past the chin and hit the SIDE of the head, but he didn't not punch like Sam Peter.
