I like where you went with that because Joe Frazier is one of my favorite fighters in history. Let's not kid ourselves though, Ali was coming out for the 15th round regardless of what he might have said. They both would have come out.

Had he beaten Douglas you would give him credit? It would have meant less than beating Tony Tubbs.

IDK. By 1988 Tyson may have already been fading. He would always overpower Spinks. What did he do in '88 otherwise?

Ws the only man to ever KO Holmes and blew out a still very good and tricky Tubbs .. it obviously was not a prime or even an active Holmes but Mike was n his game and destroyed him in brutal fashion ..

He was great just not great for very long. Also he never got to the top again after losing to Douglas.

Point is Douglas wasn' the best fighter he faced. He put it all together on the right night.

To be honest, you have the same issue with all the other great heavyweights, with the exception of Ali.

I see no reason why Tyson should be singled out for this.

I suppose you're right, but I single Tyson out because there were at least two other major talents contemporaneous with himself against whom he might have demonstrated his greatness, and he failed to do. He didn't fight the best available competition available for a long stretch as did Louis or Holmes, or, dare I say it, Marciano.

The worthy rivals were there, if only he'd held it together long enough, but he didn't.

All three of those guys missed elite competition. (and I'm the biggest Louis fan you'll find)

The 80s IMO wasn't dry spell as far as talent was concerned. Those guys were very good boxers. The issue with most of them was Don King/drugs. Talent wise it looks much better than today for example.
