Spot on. It was not a possibility at all. I gave Oscar three rounds, and I even tried finding anything to give him. Oscar was slow and old, and 3 rounds is being generous to him. Giving him more than 4 is just having another agenda.
Agree with the above posts. I feel even Lederman gave Oscar the 12th out of pity. I remember Floyd easily set the pace for 2 mins 50 seconds before that dramatic final blowout in the last few seconds.
Not necessarily. A rematch was in the offing but Floyd retired. I think Oscar would have done more poorly in any rematch. This was his last decent performance.

To be honest I did not score the fight when I watched it. I had the sense at the time that Floyd Mayweather beat Oscar De La Hoya 8-4 or 7-5. It would not have shocked me if the judges gave it to De La Hoya but I thought Mayweather was the better boxer that night. When you score a fight you have to go with what your eyes and ears tell you at the time you can't use stats to score a fight. If you could use stats. 6-5-1 Floyd. There were several rounds where Oscar's bursts appeared more effective than Floyd jabbing and pot shotting gloves. Close fight IMO.
I thought it was a close but clear win for Mayweather, it was about even until the last 3rd of the fight & Mayweather`s quality took over, he never dominated Oscar in any rd except rd 11 tho but he did enough to take the majority of them.
I agree. Oscar was doing well being aggresive.Floyd doing his shoulder roll when Oscar attacked kinda masked the fact that Mayweather was still being hit.Whether it was the top of Floyds head or the side,he was still being hit. Oscar was also doing well with his jab.I have never realy seen Mayweathers head snap back like in this fight. Still i had Floyd winning,but it was close.The one judge having it for Oscar simply must like aggressiveness.Just like some judges like ring generalship,effectiveness ect. I think with Floyds pop shot one at a time punching,it was easier to see him land in this fight.When Oscar landed,it was Floyd on the ropes shoulder rolling and Oscar throwing combos.They were landing,but it's harder to see. IMO if this fight happened a few years earlier,Oscar takes it.If De La Hoya would have mixed being aggressive with that nice jab for the full fight,he wins. I give Mayweather credit for taking the fight at then Oscar's weight of 154lbs,and for the win. I would also like to say that the rematch with Floyd Sr accepting to train Oscar,would have been great.Brother against brother with Sr and Roger could have been nice fight hype. Mayweather Jr always talks about he is a prize fighter."Ofcourse i fight for a prize.Yet he turns down the rematch with Oscar for his second biggest payday of his career.Hmmmm:think
