Those were my impressions. I also got the feeling that Pac was ready to just say screw the game plan and go to war with Cotto once he noticed that Cotto was vulnerable in the exchanges.
Do you guys think maybe cotto was a little cautious of this at times and so when manny was on the ropes there would be little activity from cotto and he would wait himself just incase manny countered with his bliztering speed?
i think the plan was to frustrate cotto. cotto threw bombs but pac just showed that it has no effect in him. i think they got the idea from the margarito fight.
Pac was just laughing in there, thats why he layed on the ropes. Pac made Cotto look like a joke and I dont know how ppl thought Cotto had a shot.
Because Clottey did it he saw Cotto run in the same fight too.Cotto's trainer and sparring partners were insisting that Cotto will no doubt hit Pac like never before. So basically PAC did a test to find out.I think Pac is doing what ALI use to do back in the day the rope-a dope trick that's legend stuff that few would attempt.ALi is a hero/idol for Manny.
Even Pac admitted that Cotto hit him hard and that it hurt a lot, he simply didn't show it because he wanted a mental edge. Cotto did have a chance, Pac just had a good plan and the physical ability to execute it well.
There you go......Pacquiao got Cotto to war with him, which is what Pacquiao wanted. You dont want to box with a better boxer......if you can get his blood boiling enough for him to come to you, half the battle is won. Once Cotto started the chase, Pacquiao was pretty quick to pick up the pace and tempo in which Cotto was advancing.....and from there, since he's the much faster handed fighter, its rat tat tat tat.....rat tat tat tat....rat tat tat tat....... Its alot harder for Pacquiao to work that magic when its he who's forced to chase.
One of the traits of a great champion is one that can hide his pain. Since he's been out of boxing, Sugar Ray Leonard has admitted to being hurt several times during a fight, but able to hide it well. His words were, "the greats have that ability to hide it when they're hurting." .....though with Pacquiao, I dont think he's quite on Leonards level of hiding the hurt..... Pacquiao likes to lift his arms when he gets tagged clean, but I've noticed that when he's really hurt, he lifts them more outward toward his sides, and you see a little worry on his face...... ....with Leonard, he'd just go about it as if that shot was just a glancing blow......often times even feinting to throw a shot in order to buy time.
I kinda felt sorry for him when I saw that in the cotto fight he has a youthful look due to him being smaller so kinda look like a kid hiding his pain but he delt with it like a man-beast
that was part of the game plan. notice how porter pummeled him with his back on the ropes as showed by 24 7.seeing that, i thought that porter gave PAC troubles during sparring. but after seeing the fight with cotto, the plan just fits in.
