Nah... Sweat had all the punches in the book... he just mainly relied on the jab since he really didn't have a lot of Power. But he'd catch dudes with every punch in the book after making them look silly punching air. Floyd is undefeated..not better.
I don't know if you're talking to me, but I'm no fanboy of any fighter. Floyd to me is the greatest of all time only because of the amount of money I've won off of him. Realistically any fighter can be defeated which is why I'm asking if Pernell was really that good?
Pete vs Floyd would be the ultimate chess match. But Whitaker would take it because of his incredible jab, better slickness and because he was more loosy, goosy. Pete Whitaker was all that and a bag of skittles. Do yourself a favour and grab a career set or something.
Mayweather vs Whitaker would be competitive. The result is far from simple to predict, because both these guys are special. Overall, I'd go for Whitaker, though -- southpaw, excellent jab, masterful defence, threw combinations as well as single shots, could go to the body and the head, could fight backing up or in the pocket, a good chin, and he had a good workrate too. Mayweather tends to use the high guard and 'walk 'em down' approach against southpaws. This strategy would be a bad idea against Whitaker. I've noticed that Roger Mayweather is always interviewed on the ESB front page (On The Ropes) and I wish the interviewers would ask him about his general thoughts on Whitaker and how he compares to Floyd Jr.
I think Whitaker would beat Mayweather but I think it would be a competitive & excellent technical boxing match similar to maybe Whitaker Mcgirt 1... people underrate Mayweather I think, I don`t really like the guy, he has no respect for what the fans want but he would give Pernell a good fight, I think Whitaker beats him about 7-5 tho.
After 5 rounds of punching at air and getting nailed by 100 "bee stings" his opponents began to respect his offensive ability. I don't think they were really worried about getting KO'd but maybe didn't want to get hit more while expending more energy knowing the outcome would most likely be the same. Sweet pea frustrated more fighters than any other I know.
His oppnent looks custom made for Floyd, Whitaker type fighters. I'm looking at this, and thinking he bobbles, weaves, duck, dodges and I can see why he frustrates his opponents, but this particular opponent is just a brawler and a master boxer would have a field day with him Not taking away from Whitaker, I gotta find the time to watch more film on him.
