I think you have him mixed up with President Ike Ibeabuchi. Prince Charles Williams was never incarcerated.
He was a good fighter, probably best remembered for his series of fightes with Bobby Czyz. Kind of a low-key guy who managed to get himself ignored for the majority of his title reign. If I recall, he made some of his title defences in Europe, despite being American. I haven't watched a fight of his in years, but I remember him being a smart, technical boxer but without any real standout qualities. He was a good champ though, though most would probably say Virgil Hill was the 'real' champ during that period.
He and James Toney had a beautiful inside fight. Could've fought in a very small room. Like a room that only had a phone and maybe a seat in it. Or a photobooth. If they took out the equipment.
I liked him. He was an entertaining boxer-puncher who had some fun performances and dynamic image. His manager was a women but I can't remember who she was.. She turned his career around after a rough start. But as for where I rank Prince Charles in the grand scheme of light heavyweight division, I'd have to say not very high. To the casual boxing fan he was an obscurity.. To the serious boxing fan he was a "good" fighter but not much more than that.. He might make top 100..
He was certainly the most credible among peers when contrasted to prince Charles, Jeff Harding, Dennis Andries and the green version of Michael moorer.. After 1990 everything pretty much went to shlt in that class.. It had been completely void of anything resembling lineage since Spinks departed in 1985. Moorer was beginning to look like the next rampaging force.. But he also moved up to 200.. Hill lost to hearns.. Harding was beaten by the much older Andries.. And prince Charles continued to unimpress.. There wasn't any real life until jones and michealczewski jointly cleaned up the division, but never met each other in the ring either.
Was a good fighter and greatfighter to watch fought a bit like Tony with good old school skills had a great uppercut that he used on bobby cz .used to show his fights on fight night in the uk and I used to look forward to them .

He was at least the 2nd best Lightheavyweight in the world from 1988-1990 I think Virgil Hill had a difficult style and probably would have beaten him But, Williams was very, very good. He twice dismantled Bobby Czyz. I think if he had fought Moorer, he had the better chin, and probably would have outlasted Moorer. To me, Williams career at 175 was untapped potential, even though he held the IBF title for almost 6 yrs. He didn't get the big fights he deserved. This leads me to believe, he was probably avoided Also, I don't think he had the best management. I remember reading in KO Mag, that his management never sent anything to them that they could use to promote him. They said they were getting all sorts of PR stuff from the managers of far less accomplished fighters.
