Yeah, his devastating one-two/left nut, right nut combo to Golota's gloves was brilliant, SRR-level stuff.
No... Bowe had enough left to force Golota to quit and foul out of the fight. Golota didnt win the fights he was DQ'd in both. He was winning the fights, but when he couldnt break Bowe, he fouled out, so he did in fact lose both fights and Bowe won them because of his mental toughness, something Golota never had. :deal
If you're trying to imply that Golota didn't have the heart, soul and mind holy trinity of a true ATG champion, then you are clearly mentally unstable.
It was Golota's excessive masturbation to Polish porn before both fights that weakened his arms to the point he couldnt land an uppercut above the belt. Mentally he was rock solid.
Bowe was a brave talent, but he had a lot of things his way and always had a tendancy to be sloppy. riddick fought a great fight against holyfeild with a good jab, work rate and inside game- but holyfeild (still regarded as a chease champion at that time) was much smaller and this was a big advantage for bowe. This is not bowes fault, evander had what he wanted and he took it. Bowe then took an ageing dokes and ring worn ferguson in gimmie fights rather than lennox lewis then rematched the little guy hed already beat - and lost. from then on he remained an underacheiving sloppy contender, he wasnt quite shot just sloppy. There were a few heavyweights around at that time who given the chance could take a sloppy riddick bowe. he often looked too tired to move out of the way of punches he saw coming. Golota was always good enough to beat up a sloppy bowe and this is exactly what golota did. both times. Golota had his flaws but he could fight. unlike holyfeild and herbie hide, golota was just as big as bowe himself. he had less of the advantages he had against his other opponents. since the chease had already slipped off the poles craker, golota kept hitting bowe low even when warned. bowe took a prolonged beating in these fights because the fouling gave him nuemerous respites that actualy extended the punishment. He was certainly shot after these fights if he was only sloppy before.
Slightly past his prime. In the rematch, Bowe was in his best possible shape and got creamed, only to be saved from Golota fouling out. The truth is Bowe was never good on defense, and had issues vs. good jabbers with straight right hands.
-Bowe was really fat in the first fight, but that's nothing radically new for him as he had flirted with 250 after other questionable camps; however the underdog Golota was much more troubling that he or anyone at the time anticipated. -Bowe lost a ton of weight for the rematch but got caught with a bad shot in the second round and never had his legs under him after that.
Agreed. How he didn't beat Bowe is puzzling to me, especially with the low blows. I wouldn't say Bowe was shot, but he was definitely past his greater days.
"Bowdacious" Bowe was only 29 in 1996. He was not old, but more improperly trained on both occasions against Golota. Bowe was under trained in fight # 1 with Golota by weighing a slobbish 253 pounds, and Bowe was over trained and drained at a too lean 235 pounds for the rematch with Golota. By 1996, Bowe was fine and good at roughly 242 pounds... Too bad Bowe couldn't commit and obtain that form of conditioning during his struggles with Golota. MR.BILL:deal
