Those were two tragic fights, in which two good fighters destroyed each others' careers. Bowe took savage beatings and was never the same. Golota was destroyed mentally, or perhaps merely had his mental shortcomings exposed. But neither guy was ever the same again. I don't think Bowe was that shot....I think Golota deserves some credit here...he was in shape, aggressive as hell, and took Bowe by surprise.
Yeah, he took Bowe with low blows.........no low blows , especially in the first fight and Golata either quits or is getting Ko'ed. Eddie Futch left Bowe after the first fight, that gives you a idea how far Bowe was gone. A no hope kid from the getto who became undisputed HWT champ, can't get any better than that but you only can take a person out of the ghetto, can't take the ghetto out of a person and that is the truth when it comes to Bowe and to a extent Tyson.
I don't think he was "shot", but had probably lost a step or two.. he was showing up to fights at career high weights, had taken a lot of hard shots by that point and no longer had Eddie Futch in his corner.. I also think that Golata's dirty tactics contributed to Bowe being punished in that fight.. Now, if we did the following: 1. Turn the clock back four years 2. Put Eddie Futch back in Bowe's corner 3. Created an invisible barrier around Bowe's nuts, I think the outcome might have been different.
I didn't realize that. I remember the riot after that fight though. Brutal. Rock Newman was an *******.. He managed Bowe well, but what a dick..
About Bowe losing his punch-resistance, i thought it had already deteriorated badly by the time he fought Herbie Hide in '95. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIfmOyl31DQ[/ame] Look how often & easily he gets hurt by Hide! :scaredas:
That's a valid observation, but I think its also worth mentioning that Hide, despite being a former cruiserweight, had incredible power.. How many guys did Bowe fight prior to that who had the same blend of power and speed to their punches?
Clearly getting hurt by Hide is a sign of lost punch resistance. I mean Hide only had like a 99% KO ratio going into the Bowe fight and put Bentt in a coma for 4 days. If a guy that limp wristed is rocking you, its time to hang them up. :verysad

Bowe was hit just as hard by Cooper and didnt budge. Cooper had more proven power against heavyweights. Hide did not. I think his point was pretty valid, because around the time Bowe fought Hide, he really starting looking like ****. He really could no longer throw a straight righthand.
Bowe is lucky Cooper lost his punch resistance when he faced him. The Cooper that Bowe faced is no different than the one that will be fighting Gabe Brown this month. Sorry shell of a fighter..still capable of being a top 5 HW of course.
