i just want to point out theftjr's papi was a nobody in the 80s who got knfo by srl.

seems like theftjr's papi learned his lesson well and taught his son the art of cherrypicking.

    Definitely overrated by some.

I've seen him ranked as high as p4p #3 alltime. :-(

I wouldn't rank him any higher than 5 and could even see him as low as 8.

Regardless of which of these ratings people wish to use, it demonstrates that he was an extremely elite fighter if there were a maximum of 7 fighters better than him.

Not disagreeing with you but I think Duran would win, if for no other reason than he can take a better punch than Pac. The shot that Duran got hit with by Hearn's was in a completely different league than the punch that stopped JMM. Even though Duran lost, he actually got back on his feet after taking that shot. Barkley hit Duran with some murderous punches too. Gil Clancy, who was one of the commentators said that it winner was going to be the guy who could take their opponents best shots, because they were both throwing leather in that fight, and this was at 160.

Exactly, this is why Gatti and Ward get so much respect. They weren't the best boxers but win or lose, they put everything they had into their fights and personally I respect this type of fighter, more than say a Mayweather who never really tested himself to his absolute limit, because to do that, you have to risk losing and in fact it's only by losing that you ever know what your limit was.

Peoples best arguments against duran were that he was KO'd against hearns at 154..and lost a fight at 147 against SRL he lost 60lbs for??

he was the most dominant 135lber that ever lived and pure talent alone gave him solid wins at 147,154,160, and 168. Who's give a sh1t that he lost fights above that weight class against all-time greats???

he would run over sweet pea like a truck at 135.

Overrated and underrated is so subjective.

I'll leave it as this: Duran was probably the fighter of the 70s, and mixed offense and defense as well as any fighter who ever lived.

pea outlanded oscar on compubox and he scored the only knockdown of the fight...dlh missed a lotta punches. it should been a pea win...but that decision is a typical example of boxing politics because dlh was the young upcoming marquee guy and they needed to protect his record.
