They use to have more than fifteen rounds too but I don't think it makes Ali less great than Jack Johnson. The strategies may change but it's still hard competition that will separate the men from the boys anyway.

They did claim that's why but I think it had more to do with television programming/scheduling being more convenient with fewer rounds possible in the event. The organisations caring about fighter health is...Well, let's just say I think they prioritise playing ball with TV channels over that. Business is business. If they got paid by the round, with every round bringing in even more than the round before, we'd see studies suggesting the longer you fight the better you take punches (like smoking preventing cancer) and we'd have 100-round contests.

That could have been a contributing factor yes. But I think that the death of the fighter I mentioned was the straw the broke the camels back.
