    But it wasn't was it?

However the stars did align, Steele making a bad choice or not? Towards a clean stoppage win - IMO. I've seen WAYYYY worse calls.

wasnt what? there was no need to call for enforcement of the rule, neither the Chavez camp or steele needed it, given taylors physical state at the time of the stoppage. had the fight continued, and taylor declared the winner, then Chavez could have appealed to the rulebook.

Yeah, Taylor would've had no chance vs King and the Mexican mafia to be fair. Duva, like I said, is an idiot. This is from my old coach (sparring with ali, norton, holmes, spinks, etc so he knows whats what) -

"Discretion of the Commissioners- Doesn't happen that much...plus mob gambling money involvement...Vegas has its own rules sometimes..lots of mummies buried in the sand out there"

No need for reenforcement of the rule? What else are they paid to do? Sit there with thumbs up the NSAC's asses while Steele shits his pants? They had a good 10 seconds to intervene and call it off themselves.

    Regardless. A shitshow all around.

Lou Duva & Meldrick’s Philly Heart lost him that fight.

all he had to do was get on his bike & pump his fists & stick out his tongue in mockery for the last 30 seconds ( as much as I despise that kind of strategy - it’s effective)

Hell even Terrance Crawford resorted to that vs Viktor Postol.

steele never saw lou up on the apron before ending it, thats why to him, taylor was looking off into space instead of answering questions about his fitness to continue. had he seen lou, im sure he would have stopped the fight for that reason. lou ****ed up royally, he unintentionally pulled his fighters focus away from the critical moment in front of him. cost him the fight. without lous interference, taylor would have focused on the refs instructions instead of on lou.

Case in short, Duva is an idiot, Steele made the right call regardless of any outside circumstances.

Till this very day, this is the worst stoppage in the history of Boxing. Everything considered, this screamed nothing other than a fix on the referee’s part. Even 2 of the 3 judges had Taylor ahead, for once even the judges had the right guy winning even though JCC was the draw. With a 10-8 scored in the 12th, Taylor still wins.

Richard Steele really messed that up. Taylor was never the same after that fight, he could have had that victory for all his glory but it was taken from him in a moment of madness that will never make any sense no matter what anyone says to try and justify it.

I disliked JCC after this for years and took extreme pleasure when De La Hoya smashed the old, over the hill version of himself. Boxing is a sh*t hole of a sport at all times, unfortunately I love it

Careful - Chavez only lost to Frankie Randall who isn't exactly a scrub. Then got the piece from oskee TWICE. - Oh I loved that.

Steele did the right thing, He was watching the fight instead of the clock. He felt Taylor was done and called it. I see no problem with it. Dam shame for Taylor but it is what it is.

After the fight the other commentators discus why it was a good stoppage the guy who did the in ring interview missed it and was the one making a fuss about it

I think both cases have merit but I also think Steele had a hair-trigger finger in calling it off. And despite Taylor not answering the questions, he was responsive enough to Duva's intrusion to show that he wasn't done. There is also no chance Chavez would have walked over and landed something else had Steele waved it on.

Is this just something Taylor fans made up? There is absolutely no evidence that Lou jumped on the ring apron at all.
