He was trying to throw a punch and Holt plowed his head into him. Torres was not moving forward excessively in his motion, he only moved enough to try and get off a punch. On top of that Torres had been moving backward trying to get enough space to get off a punch - and Holt STILL plowed into him. Look at it again. I totally disagree. Go back to Torres again - look at the position of Torres' body when he gets hit. Holt ran him over with his head. Torres is almost straight up and down when the impact occured. His body is not leaning forward at all. AT ALL. He moved forward in rotation to throw a punch and halfway into the motion Holt's head is already colliding with his chin. Torres got rammed. I say earlier in the thread here that I also thought it was possibly unintentional initially without thinking about it. It's when I started hearing over and over that it was unintentional that I decided to look further. Things naturally evolved from there. It's been a good excercise.

There have been several great miconceptions about that sequence. After the first misconception I knew better than to assume I knew what may have been going on without taking a very close look. The truth is the truth.
Holt is coming forward to throw a punch, Torres is coming forward to throw a punch. Holt comes in with his head ala Hopkins and Torres eats a headbutt. Intentional? Who cares? If it was, Kendall Holt is a genius to have thought in advance to launch his head at Torres. If it wasn't (Like I think it is), then it was just tough luck on Torres' part.
Holt was coming forward with his head, Torres had just taken a step backward to give himself room to throw and was rotating on a right hook when Holt's head smashed into his face. Torres had just started the motion of his punch when Holt's head plowed into his chin. Torres got run over with a tremendous amount of force and momentum. This is clearly indicated by the fact that Torres lurched backwards 6 feet after the impact.
If you have the download of this sequence pause right at the moment that Holt's head makes contact with Torres' face. Holt's right arm is still at his side and he hasn't started his punching motion. It's just like Arriba said - ala Hopkins, textbook. It's important that you watch both guys. Torres stepped back to throw and then started rotating on his punch. Holt stepped forward and didn't start his punch until after his head made contact with Torres' face.
It looks like he's cocking for the punch RIGHT as they bump heads. Also remember, Holt got knocked down twice and was still eating leather on a fairly consistent basis. I doubt he thought "I'll headbutt this dude and knock him out with it" or even thought of butting heads, He was in pure survival mode, if only to keep Torres off his ass. It's a little different from Hopkins, who leads with his head going into the pre-fight staredown.
